Thx a lot guys.. Good info and will do this week with shop tests and gap check, etc... Made it to Whistler for the weekend and left when it starting snowing. Just happy i got to hit the hwy one last time before winter.
I did adjust the rpm up for trip and sanded down the points with little file with the same outcome. I'll try the gap on the plugs, and get into the shop to check for vacuum leaks or improper mixture setting or improper cold/hot fuel pressures. thx again, will let u know the outcome. |
+1 on the spark plug gap. Same thing happened when I installed my MSD. Also removed the points and went with pertronix.

+1 ? I really didn't remember my gap before and so what gap did you go with and im still waiting for the pertronix.

Same with me. Tried .045 and had the miss at high RPMs. Apparently there is too much turbulence inside the cylinder at high RPMs for that big of a gap. Some say it blows out the spark, I don't know if that's true or not.
I lowered my gap to .030 and now it is perfect. |
I think I settled at .032, very close to what dipso is at. I also heard to get the rotor without the resistor in it. Over time, it will melt and then no spark. Cant seem to find the correct rotor size without the resistor. But so far, so good, and right now, the engine runs very well.

removed the points and went with pertronix, now car has no power at low rpm and missing. Its fine over 3000 and idles fine when hot. I dont know if u have to do the timing after u covert to the msd and pointless ignition?

You must reset your timing. But once set it should not change because there are no points to wear or get dirty thus changing your dwell.

It sure sounds like your points have closed up a bit. I'd check the dwell. Also don't forget to check the filter at the bottom of the tank right at the fuel line.

Ooops I didn't notice you'd switched to pertronics. Do retime your car though.

Ok timing is done at 6000 rpm and should be set at tdc or z1 on the 1975 porsche 911 s targa. OR do i check it at 900 rpm. The book isnt helping here.
I did set it and drove miles with car running good , but now it misfires etc.. so back at it , just checking if im doing it right. thx |
