Best product/process for sealing VIN near smuggler's box?
A minor consideration in the long-running saga of putting my 72 T back together as a Kremer-ish ST...Any thoughts on the best way to seal the engraved VIN near the smuggler's box for a nice period look?
I currently have it stripped to bare metal with all options open. The overall interior of the trunk will either be black or will be the same color as the car (haven't decided yet), but I recall most VINs I have seen have the small rectangular area of the VIN in a greyish color. I figure the options are: prime and paint grey or, clear (maybe clear POR-15??) other |

Other? FWIW, the trunk compartment got an "overspray" job at the factory...not the solid body color paint I've seen in "restored" cars. For the VIN itself, the factory did a broad stroke of brushed on semi gloss black.

Sorry I don't have a pic of the VIN itself..but this gives you an idea of what I mean by "overspray"...a pic of my old car's smuggler box...never repainted '72 911S.

How to finish VIN number stamping? - Early 911S Registry Bulletin Board
The factory did it the simple way with a brush stroke of black paint.
