sunroof plug

Hello,
I am planning on making a fiberglass plug for a 1980 911sc track car. Im not sure what the best way to do it would be. Should I try to make the plug (apply the epoxy resin to the cloth and let it harden) and then try to glue it in. or should I try to apply the resing to the cloth and push it up against the underside of the roof and try to get it to dry in place. Im not sure if this method will come out straight. Will gluing the fiberglass plug (1st method) leave a large gap between the fiberglass and the roof. I have the old original sun roof piece of metal and I was thinking that it may be a good mold to use. Any suggestions for the second method of some type of plastic or something that I could push it up from underneath as it is drying?
Ill take most any suggestions.
THanks for the help
Scott

I have read some fiberglass to metal bonding threads on other sites and Ive heard good things about 3M adhesive bonding and using epoxy glue. I would preferably like to just wet the fiberglass cloth (a piece slightly larger than the sunroof hole) with epoxy resin and put it up on the inside of the roof and press it there so that it dries in place in the right shape. Ive heard that epoxy resin will bond to the metal so long as you sruff the metal up and clean it with acetone before.
Please lt me know what has worked for you if you have a fiberglass sunroof plug.
Thanks
Scott
