full throttle not all the wat open on throttle body?

So while i was in replacing the intake boot and some gaskets I opened the throttle with my hand to clean some junk out of the throttle body....then I realized it was open 45 degrees-ish from flat....shouldnt the throttle valve open up all the way to allow max air flow? i dont know...have I been using half throttle?

Not sure what car you have there, but if it is a 3.2 Motronic, for example, the throttle can be adjusted to open a full 90 deg when the gas pedal is fully depressed.
Moving it by hand does not really tell you much, as you don't usually drive that way...

What year/ model car are we talking about?

Often the plastic bushings on the throttle assembly on top of the engine wear out causing this.

I opened it with the same lever the throttle cable mounts too, I did open it as the pedal would.
It is a 76' 911s, with CIS injection. Any ideas why it would open all the way?

And david I noticed your kart avatar, I happen to also race. I am 17 and run the rotax circuit (regionals, pan am, nationals, fwt, and some wka stuff)

It's probably a few things worn out that need to be replaced which you'll just have to dig around to find and then adjust the linkage to get full throttle.

I haven't raced a kart for almost 3 years, but I raced for 5 years before that and it was a blast! My racing buddy and boss switched to an SCCA Formula Enterprise car about 3 years ago and really enjoys not having to take his engine apart every race weekend. The costs to race the car are a bit more than the kart which were probably more than I should have been spending anyway so I just quit. Good luck with cars if you get into them!

Follow the linkage from the transmission right up to the throttle body. Have a helper push the accelerator down fully. You should then be able to see where it needs adjustment. There are several joints in the setup so only do what is necessary to get the full throttle.

thanks for the advice ill give it a go tomorrow.

Check to see you still have plastic bushings in the throttle linkage where there is a shaft that goes through an aluminim plate that is bolted approximately above the base of the #3 cylinder. Those things deteriorate, break and go away, leaving a sloppy throttle linkage.
