Seeking table of engine weights
Anyone have a table showing the weights for the various engines delivered in the 911? I'm talking engine only, no trans or car.
I am curious to find if the standard assumption that the larger displacement engines weigh more holds true. After all, displacement weighs nothing. I expect that the change from mag to aluminium case had a more profound affect on weight than did the changes in displacement. In any event, I'm guessing the weight delta between old and new is not that great. |
Clark, I think the additional weight associated with the development of the 911 engine is due to the increasingly heavy ancilliaries/electronics/induction systems,etc.
As for weights of bare engines I'll assume you mean complete, ready to install but without oil. I'll start the ball rolling with some of the earlier engines (I've included the 912 for comparison): Up to '68 Aluminium sand-cast: 912 130 kg 911T,L,S 184 kg 1969-71 2.0/2.2L Magnesium high pressure -cast: 911T 176 kg 911E/S 182 kg Others will no doubt chip in with the later versions. I'll chime in and give you one of the heaviest - the California 930.
Weighs in at a svelt 530 pounds. No typo, I weighed mine myself on a drum scale. Makes the V8 swap a bit less lop-sided doesn't it. |

The Tobias Aichel Books ( Forever Young and 911 engine story ) had charts. More displacement means bigger holes and bigger holes wight less ;). The lightest engines where the 2,0/2,2 T with close to 145 kg. The S had a heavyier crank but compensatet with the pistons and cylinder. Grüsse |
