Questions on steering wheel refinish
Hi,
I have been searching and reading posts on steering wheel refinishing, double wraps, 380mm wheels etc. My stock 400mm (foam?) wheel is "broken" down at 12:00 (eg the material rotates on the underlying frame). My questions are: 1. Who is the best steering wheel refinisher? I have seen many references to Tony @ Autobahn but wondered if there was anybody else I should consider 2. How much should one expect to pay to repair and "double wrap" my orig wheel (I realize from many posts that correctly making the grip thicker involves adding padding under a single layer of leather)? 3. Should I go the 380mm (914) wheel on an otherwise stock 911 (my dad purchased the car new in 12/72) ? I always thought the 400mm was awkward but some of that may have been due to the incredibly thin grip size of the stock wheel. At 6'1" w/ long legs the stock wheel sometimes even impacts my lower thighs unless I move the seat ALL the way back which creates other discomforts. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. ...Roger |
