Will a 1989-94 964 Deck lid fit on an 82 911SC

I was looking at buying either an OEM or aftermarket wing/deck lid that was on a 1991 964. I was told that the model year that it fits on was 89-94 and I wanted to know if it would fit on my '82 911SC. The seller told me it would but wanted to be sure.

What is the correct answer? Thanks.

Jay

Physically yes they fit. The external dimensions and curvature are the same. The difference is in the width of the mounting insert spacing. A 964 retractable wing requires modified hinges to mount onto a 911.

Each aftermarket wing is different. Some are 911 spacing, some are 964 spacing.

So, if I am interested in getting the aftermarket decklid and wing, what should I be looking for, asking or measuring to see if it will fit my 82 911SC?

I got my 1980 Targa with a 964 wing

when I tried to fit his original bonnet I had a hell of work because there are small differences in the 964 hinges and fenders

Did you want to fit only the wing or all the 964 rear parts?

Note that you cannot swap the SC grille with a 964 wing without modify the hole and so the red stripe Porsche can't be swapped on his original cross (see above)

Aftermarket? A 964 deck lid will work but you will need modified hinges. From what I understand if your car has air conditioning it will not work and if your coil is mounted on the fan housing it will need to be relocated. I modified hinges by cutting them in half and bolting them back together with angle aluminum, mattman here selling hinges like that but welded. You may have seen my post the for sell section, it's all parts needed to do the job.

Yes Aftermarket. One of the options available to me is an Aftermarket GT2 wing/lid from Extreme Dimensions (http://www.extremedimensions.com/11593.html) that is for an 89-94 964 so I wanted to know if I went that route would it fit or not. It sounds like it will if I modify hinges and since I dont have AC.

I will look for post on this and the items i need for sale. Any specifics would be appreciated and/or pics and source for hinges.

PS - I couldnt find a member here by the name of "mattman" as you stated. Any help?

I used Matt's hinges and a straight 2 position momentary switch to raise/lower instead of using all the electrics for auto raise/lower.

there are 2 main threads that come up concerning Matt's hinges and member installs
