magnus,

I find it an easier install if I have the short rod connected to the pedal and snap the other end to the main linkage. Getting that ball joint into the rubber pedal gets difficult sometime because of leverage. Specially when the weather starts to get colder, the rubber pedal becomes less resilient. A dab of grease also facilitates in getting the ball slide in.

Since I don't have a strong grip to force that ball joint in, I use a method like this. Have the short rod aligned perpendicular to the pedal and hit the pedal with a rubber mallet. Use a vise grip to hold the short rod behind the pedal and smack it. HTH.

set the vise grip up so the footboard holds it so it won't move

I just push mine on after that, but a mallet will work - as will coating the ball end and the rubber socket with water to which you add a drop of detergent or soap

Be sure you're not trying to seat the ball in one of the many (incorrect) indentations on the back of the pedal. Very easy to do on mine.

The easiest way that I have found to do this is to have the linkage hooked up as normal, place the linkage ball that snaps into the gas pedal at the correct opening in the back of the pedal and then do the following. Grab the gas pedal with both hands, ready to push with your thumbs/palms. Use your other fingers to wrap around the pedal and pull towards you and slightly down on the linkage as you push with your thumbs. Usually snaps right in. Good luck, Noah.

Stupid gas pedal problem, Part 2

I ass/u/me from the above that to disconnect the gas pedal from the throttle rod(to get old carpet off/new carpet on), one "just" pulls the gas pedal off the throttle rod. I tried that with moderate force, not wanting to break anything, and no luck.

So, does this work better if I unbolt the pedal where it connects to the floor? Or just yank harder, or, . . . ?

I had this happen to me at a recent autocross. When I took the carpets out of the car for tech, I must have accidentally unsnapped the connection. I couldn't get the ball to seat in the plastic socket no matter how much I tried. I didn't realize it at the time and the rod got stuck in one of the waffles on the back of the pedal, which only allowed me partial throttle. I finally got another gas pedal installed and it snapped right in. So, yes, that connection can be ornery. Just push harder.

Same thing happened 2 weeks ago (still unhooked). Coincidently or not, I been revving hight (2K) ever since. I can getting down by physically helping the throttle return spring. Got a new spring on order; a $1 cheaper at the Porsche Dealer!!!, will frame the receipt

Got a new gas pedal last year so it's a good time to put it on, replace the spring and adjust the linkages.

Thanks for posting your problem.

position the ball onto it's hole in the pedal, grab the rod with some sidecutters just above the pedal board and push the pedal hard until it pops onto the ball.

I'm Done

magnuskgc

Unlike my 5 minutes job at work which some time turn to days... This only took five minutes.

I used a needle nose vise grip to hold the rod, put the ball in the hole and it needed a couple of good whacks. As a bonus, it solve my high rev idling

Again, thanks for your posting.
