Thanks for the replies. Should have specified that it's for my 89 carrera, but you guys are smart.

Is the yellow worthwhile as a lighting improvement, or does it just look cool? Not discounting looking cool by any stretch - if I could get a set of those french yellow H-5s, I'd be all over it.

"..yellow worthwhile.."

Yes, but only in actual foggy conditions, otherwise you're better off with 4300K.

55w H-3 bulbs were used for years and are still readily available at most US auto parts outlets. The choice of driving light or fog light lens depends on your location and the predominant weather. Yellow was trendy in the late 60s and 70s but personally I like clear lenses and ordinary white halogen bulbs. Saw a 911 post yesterday with a picture of a car with French style E-coded yellow H-4 headlight lenses - Yuk! Never did understand why French cars had those hideous yellow headlights for years. The nicest light setup I had was a VW with E-coded H-4 lenses and 80/100w bulbs on relays with Bosch 100w H-3 driving lights. Not DOT legal in the day but very nice illumination of the Nevada desert at night and effective countermeasure for those who refused to dim lights to oncoming traffic. I'd stay away from any of the trendy blue halogens now used in rice rockets - no improvement in lighting and more glare. My Porsche currently has sugar scoops and 40 yr old DOT sealed beams. One day I'll upgrade to relays and H-4s. Until then maybe have to settle for Silverlight sealed beams.

FWIW. For anyone looking for hard to find bulbs for any application...not just automotive ...I suggest you check out donsbulbs.com.
I ordered some hard to find bulbs for a 911R replica tail light application (long story I wont go into now)
His email communication has been very timely and my bulbs have been shipped. I Should receive them in a couple of days. I will post again after I receive the product. But so far, I have a very good feeling about this guy.
Even if you dont order from him, his website has about everything you want to know..and more... about bulbs of all kinds.
By the way..I have no connection to Dons Bulbs. I dont work for the guy ! Just thought this info may be of help to some Pelican guys

Fog lights are for LOOKING !! Not for LOOKING AT...!!!

You have to had use for (daytime foggy conditions, GROUND fog conditions), and have used both, in order to "see" the difference.

The yellow tint is most definitely an aid to human vision in the design use circumstance.

FYI As promised, a followup post on donsbulbs.com. Got my bulbs today from donsbulbs.com
Everything looks good. No problems.

I would recommend him if you are looking for hard to find bulbs for any application. And once again, I have no affiliation with donsbulbs.com.
