Ignition Problem
I just bought a 911 81' 4 weeks ago, since I am not familiar with this car, I need your assistance:
The car does not start. -no spark from coil wire when crancking the engine -no voltage from any of the 2 wires on the coil -CDS unit does not make any whistling sound that I can hear (per Haynes manual) -The 2 wires from the coil are coming from the plug of the CDS, so I am assuming the coil is good because there is no voltage send from the CDS to the coil -When disconnected the plug from CDS and I had the ignition on, I detected voltage in two wires (12v). I cleaned the plug and did not help. I am thinking that the CDS is bad. Would this be an assertive diagnosis? Please need your assistance with the diagnosis, before incurring into 300.00 in a new CDS. Thanks, Armando |
A lot of us with older ( 60's-73)cars have or are switching from the factory cd ignition to an msd or crane aftermarket type. Much less expensive. I suggest you check the threads about this as there have been several conversations about the msd on this board. Your car is an 81, your area may be subject to emission laws and tests in which case you may have to stay stock. I don't know about that. Maybe some of the other guys can chime in on that. I know several fellows have SC's here and they do a lot of their own tweeking. Don't despare The Porsche experience is worth the trouble.
