Fire & Smoke

Hello,

I was driving my 911 C4 and all of a sudden i smelled something that reminded me about melted electrical components and a few seconds after there was smoke coming out from the ventilation ducts inside the car.

I stopped the car, switched off the ignition and there was no more smoke coming. I did a visual inspection but was not able to find any fried wires or any other evidence of an fire. Started the car and drove the few hundred meters back home without any problems.

Have anyone experienced this before and have any suggestion where I should start looking?

Regards

Tell you a little story that happened to me once.

Same as you, driving about a mile from home. Smoke starts coming out of the vents. Scares me to death. I LOVE MY CAR.

Race home and shut off the car. Guess what it was ?
The illumination bulbs for the heater controls and the ash tray
They go into a little socket. The problem is the copper leads that stick out of those sockets, is hot with the lights on. So if you pull one of those sockets out to check a bulb. And the bulb is bad. You don't put the dead bulb back in. Just tuck the wire back under the dash to fix later. And that lead touches any thing grounded. You turn the lights on. Up smokes your wiring.

I will check

Thanks Cary,

I will go down to the garage and have a look at your suggestion.

I think that there must be something under the hood or inside the ventilation system as the smoke was coming out of the ventilation ducts (on the passenger side only...)

Regards
