speedometer sending unit
the speedometer sending unit for the SC (probably Carrera too), which attaches to a round recess on passenger side of transmission, has two protruding tabs. I am not seeing corresponding slots where it mounts to transmission - are there supposed to be slots??? The recessed hole where it goes seems to have a flat mounting surface (but it is hard to see because of angle).
I am trying to get a replacment sender to work (reading nothing even though wiring is correct and circuit opens/closes when I put a magnet near it off the car). Thanks |
I can't comment on the corresponding slots but I can tell you my experience with the sending unit not working in the car.
I ordered a sender from our host and experienced the exact same problem. I ordered a replacement and experienced the exact same problem. The third one I ordered from my local Porsche dealer and it has worked for the past year. Our host took the parts back and gave me full credit so I commend them on their service. Especially when the story doesn't really make sense. "It works outside the car with a magnet but not once installed". The OEM part was slightly different in diameter (.010) which matched the original one I replaced. So I know the parts came from different sources. I can't explain the situation, but I do believe your story. Might have somehting to do with the sensitivy of the reed swith? Mark |
no tabs on the 915, it uses a wire tab to hold it in and needs to be fully seated to work. Where did you get that part?
|
the sender came from me, it was a 928 sender i sent by accident. thought it was a 911, im just waiting to hear back from him to refund the money.

Well there you have it, case closed!! Good on you 175mph for making it right. A true Pelican allstar!!

Thanks, guys. I am going to try to cut off those tabs so it sits flush and see if that works. I tossed my old one (whose wiring I spliced into the 928 one) and I couldn't remember whether it had tabs. I can't believe these things cost $155 new....
