Alternator oddities.

Hello everyone,

I have a 1977 911 track car with an updated alternator (internal VR). The alternator had a bad rotor and VR but there were no indicator lights lit on the dash. The headlights and dash lights were dim. Also the sunroof was REAL slow.

I bought a NEW alternator (not a rebuild) and now the GEN light and oil pressure warning lights are on while the car is running.

The new alternator is wired up to the car identical to the old one (same wires to the same terminals). The grounding wire is CLEAN and tight.

Is the brand new, never used alternator bad? Is it wired different internally? It is the same part number as the old one.

Got a multimeter? Your battery should read,

12.5-13 @ rest
13-13.5 @ idle
13.5-14 @ 2500 rpms
