In my opinion, although its a newer version, I think this wheel would look great on a 356.
Personally I don't think that woodrim wheels suit the 911 - apart from the early Factory woodrim wheel on '65-'68 cars. Nardi really is/was the Rolls Royce of steering wheels & you can still get a black leather version of the above with black anodised spokes which suits early 911s perfectly (then again I might be biased as I have one in my car !). It depends to a great extent what era your 911 is from as to what style of wheel suits it best. However, having said all that, at the end of the day it's your car & your decision - if you like the wheel & you think it suits your car go for it !! Andy Boyle (UK) '69 911E |

BibB- that wheel is one of my all time favourites. I just love wood rimmed Nardi's.
I've been having a debate with myself for the last month on what would be the most appropriate wheel for an early-ish 911, and thought long and hard about that wheel. But alas, it may not be the one. It's certainly a good reason to buy a 356, and you could probably get away with it on a 911 if you had chrome, silver paint and black interior (ahem). But I now think the Nardi of choice is the one Andy, CamB and very recently myself have aquired: The black leather, black spoke design. The spokes are exactly the same shape as the wooden wheel above, so still retain the classic profile. I found mine in almost unbelievable circumstances in a wreckers yard on the front seat (having been removed, and not aparantly belonging to this vehicle) of an old Toyota Corona. I basically freaked out, having been hunting a while for it. The guy at the yard remained cool and collected. Invoice states "1x Toyota weel (sic), $12 NZ" Which, for the benefit of our English readers is about the same price as a toasted sandwich from the 'Happy Eater' ![]()

I think the wooden wheels are best suited for the earlier cars - 356s, etc.... They are beautiful because they evoke the earlier days of hand-made assemblies, prior to plastic injection molding. I have a '74 Carrera and don't think the wood would 'fit' in that interior. But it's your call.
Speaking of fit, are the dimensions (both diameter and depth) close to the wheel designed for the '74? You might encounter some adverse ergonomic conditions. Something to think about.

Lets see a picture of the targa, then we may decide. Also, the Nardis look sweet on the 356 cabs.

Its in the paint shop now getting a total redo, stripped, painted and polished! But when its done you bet I will post it!!! Also I am taking the grainy vinyl of the targa and replacing it with german canvas, a much needed improvement over the factory junk.
