Wow I almost blew my engine/HELP
Went for my Sunday morning drive and of course a problem, I will try to explain. Started off from the red light and upon shifting between 2nd and 3rd the engine red lined and would not come down. I shut off the engine and opened the engine deck and flicked the throttle level a fed times and it returned back to normal. Checking from the engine side the throttle dooes not appear to be binding, what else shoud I check? Thanks Lenny:confused:

Throttle cable or pedal assembly?

Check the cruise control cable housing at the throttle housing bracket.

Also check if the cruise control was "engaged" and then failed.....Porsche, in their infinite (electrical) wisdom, designed the cruise control circuit that should it fail.....it will fail "high" instead of "low" or "off". Makes for an exciting ride. And we say the Germans have no sense of humor !!!

Ok I think I located it, exposed the pedal cluster and the accelerator pedal has two rods that pivot a black arm attached at the bottom to the cluster, removed the jesus clip and the plastic bushing is destroyed. Can someone guid me to the right bushing, I looked at our host but cant tell which one, Thanks I will try to get a picture up.

Ok I did located the bushings under accelerator lever bushings and quickly ordered them along with some new pedal rubber. All the other cluster bushing look good at this time. Thanks for the quick responses, this one was easy-who knows what will be next???

You might consider checking your pedal cluster? I just replaced my wood floor panels on my 87 cab, tons of junk around my pedal cluster. It took me about an hour to clean it up & lube before reinstalling the floor panels. Hope this helps! good luck.

I'd go with the bronze bushings rather than plastic at the pedal. There's a nice article on pedal cluster rebuilding on our hosts tech site. Bruce Stone out in California does an outstanding job rebuilding the clusters if you are not sure you can do yourself. While your in the tunnel might also check the little plastic bushings for the cable. Might also want to check your shift bushings at this time also.

Look at the clamp on the boot attached to the throttle body. If the screw is on the left side, move it to the front or right side. It binds on the screw at full throttle, but looks fine at no throttle. It happened to me on my 84.

By all means replace all the bushings in the pedal cluster. Use the bronze set. I'll guarantee that your original nylon 24 year old busings are shot. It's a relatively easy one day project. It took me a couple days as I had bracket sandblasted.
