Max Bolt on HP - 1982 European 930 Engine
What is the max safe HP for a 1982 European 930 Engine with only bolt on's?
No internal work. Bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, etc... Over 400 hp?? |

Define "safe"? Under what usage? I would argue the stock motor would be pretty marginal on the Mulsanne straight - remember the owners' handbook warning not to exceed 6,000 RPM for "extended periods"? Mine makes ~425 FW (370 RWHP) with stock boost/manifold/RoW muffler, but SC cams and extra compression - maybe 5 points - from skimmed heads. SC cams are probably worth 20-25 HP at the top, 964 cams might be 25-30 in that configuration, an obnoxiously loud muffler might be another 10-15HP and I'd guess I have maybe 10-20HP left on the table from fuel & ignition tuning. 400FWHP should be achievable with bolt-ons and careful tuning. To see that at the wheels with CIS is another matter. You certainly need intake mods (ports/heads, manifold) to get beyond that - and 430RWHP is the most I've heard of anyone doing with CIS. After which it's hey-ho for EFI and the question becomes "how much do you want to spend/how fast do you want to go". Frankly, even on a stock 3.3 I'd upgrade the factory rod bolts to aftermarket. Cheap insurance.
