1995 911 horn won't turn off

The horn doesn't turn off when the key is in. Any ideas how to fix? Thanks in advance

If your horn is like the one in my '75, it needs to be grounded to "honk".

If this was my car, I would first pull my horn pad off the steering wheel and then inspect for broken wire that is grounding in that area. On my car I gently tug on horn pad to "pop" it loose, then I can detach horn ground wire from inside the pad. To go deeper, I'd pull the steering wheel (I use a deep socket 27mm? IIRC) to remove the wheel. I can then examine the contacts on hub for inadvertent grounding. But your car, modern as it is compared to mine could be very, very different and will certainly be harder to work on.

At the very least, you can disconnect your horn(s) at the front of the car for a temporary fix so you can drive while you chase the problem down. In fact, on your '95 that might be a good place to start. Perhaps one of your horns has an issue and is always grounded, thus sounding, when the key is on.

Others more familiar with your car will have better ideas, but it definitely sounds like an inadvertent ground situation to me.

Good luck. At least everyone will know you're coming and GET OUT OF THE WAY!

You might also check to see if your car has a relay for the horn, it could be stuck.

does the airbag/horn button feel loose? the frame that mounts the airbag has 4 rubber inserts that break. haven't seen them as spare parts, so a new frame is needed. good luck, the dealer always seems to send a part that's different from the original and won't fit.

DO a search in the 964/993 section. Its a common problem. The rubber grommets between the contact plate and the airbag frame are worn out. The dealer will sell you a new plate, but you also have to change the airbag to make it fit and that is NOT cheap. Most people cut a small slice from a rubber hose and make their own grommets.
