I am pretty sure Paul wasn't slamming any of the board members, he was just razzing Wayne for spelling "car" wrong in the "New Car Care and Tools Sections" Announcement. It has since been fixed, but for a while it said "Care Care" rather than "Car Care"

In fact, it still says "Care Care" in the message itself.

NO, I really did want to say the spell checker isn't working. At least not for me. When I click on it, this comes up: Due to the current advertising climate, SpellChecker.net no longer offers a banner supported service. Webmasters: click here to sign up for the paid version of the SpellChecker.net system.

I never, ever, ever use the spell checker, myself. I'm pretty good at spelling.

In high school, I completed my yearly vocabulary book in the first week of school, and rented it to unstudious jocks for $5 a shot. I made a mint for a student.

That, and I was the bubblegum pusher.

Servus Jungs,

Es gibt so viele Schreibfehler hier weil Pelican Parts kein Deutsch kapiert.

All das von einen Australier.

Gibt es eigentlich andere Deutsche sprechende hier oder bin ich alleine?

Ciao, Victor

Please tell me, what would a spell checker of caught in the above quote? My point is, your example above would of passed any spell checker.

Hey, yo American spelling champions! MarkY, it's not "of caught" but "a caught"!
I hate spelling checkers, for one, they are often incapable of checking anything because they get fooled, like in "Eye sea it's not working", and, in my humbel (sic) opinion, they take the challenge away from writing! Often, I will mispel (sic) on purpose, because I would be trying to emulate some or other style of English... Of course, spelling checkers are good to pick out typing errors! As to "Babelfish.." translations, brilliant are they really and text completely at best unintelligible rendered, ja! And to German speaking Ozzies, I speak German MUCH better than I write it, have learned to actually like Germans, in many (not necessarily all) ways, proof that one can often learn and of course may NEVER generalize about people.

Maybe in Belgium but not in the good ole USA.

Does Belgium spell "humble" differently as well?

Glad it's staying friendly!

I'm glad no one is taking the comments negatively. Sometimes these type posts can lead to blasting others. My opinion is that spelling does not matter on a BBS unless it makes your intent unclear to the reader. We are not submitting these posts for our doctoral. As mentioned, spell checkers typically don't and can't check for correct context. In addition, I have lots of respect for those that can speak and write multiple languages. I've tried to learn French, Arabic, and Spanish and all I can remember is oui, aiwa, and si.

By the way MarkY, it's actually ....would have passed...

And "have caught". But who's checking? Actually, we have stumbled on to another interesting topic, which is the revival of the written word, thanks to computers of all things. Don't know about anyone else, but I NEVER wrote to anyone before I got this thing and found this board. Actually not completely true; some e-mail before.

Up through my parent's generation, (I'm 42), people wrote letters, thank you notes, etc. Me? I've always just used the phone. I keep the dictionary next to me here and use this board to hone my spelling and written grammer. I think that it is good to keep standard-usage English alive because it is a great equalizer. A gear-head like me can sound just as educated as a Phd.

That said, Roland's use of English is an artform; that guy is a poet as well as tech genie-in-a-bottle.

I'm a pretty good speller - have always taken pride in that.

My biggest fear would be (especially after a couple of beers) a syntax checker!
