Wheel bearing replacement help!

Hi,

So how does the Grease Cap come off....There is a notch there and I tried prying it off but nothing.

any other ideas? This is the last piece to get access to the Clamping Nut and take everything apart.

Thanks.

Emmanuel

Yeah mine was tough to get off too. I ended up grabbing it with a channel lock and working it loose. The less you rock it the better. Liggle "wiggles" will get it off faster than more dramatic rocking.

Also, I grabbed it from the side, not the front. Basically the Channel lock was in line with the axle, not the direction of car travel if you know what I mean.

It was on there pretty tight. At one point I made sure to double check my jackstands ecuase the car was moving pretty good.

If I recall correctly, good 'ol John Walker recommended using large channel-lock pliers, and twisting it off. That, and a B.F.H. should do the trick.

age is taking it's toll on doug's memory. mine too aparently. the wife sent me to the store last night for sugar and i brought back milk. a blunt chisel and big hammer gets it off. a couple of wacks on one side, a couple on the other, repeat until it's off. blunt the chisel on the bench grinder so not to scar up the cap, if you care.

Ouch! The truth hurts, John.
Actually it's a combination of age.....and 'other' things.

(And don't let that car fall on your FLSTN!)

Or, modify the cap and do it turbo style:

HALLELUYAH!

Thank you John Walker....you're chisel and hammer did the trick! It took about 40 seconds.

I think I'm deaf now from all the noise but it popped right off.

ok, clamping nut and washer are off...now do I just pull off outer bearing?
