This reminds me of the RS America, you have to pay extra for things that were standard in the seventies. Except the the RSA was 10k cheaper than a C2 coupe. I wish they would do another RSA (with 1993 pricing style)

they could have really done something
they should have really done something before putting an "R" on it |
A real R
I think Porsche could have built a real stripped down Cayman and then call it a "R" version. It would justify the title, but then it would highlight the inferiority
of the 911 range! Can't have that. The Cayman S offers about the same as the "R" in performance for less money. The Cayman handling leaves most 911 types in the dust,I know I just put 7k on my Cayman S this summer. :D |
I recently drove a base Cayman with PDK and PASM on 18's. Very quick car. You get A/C and a radio along with those options for a little less $ than a Cayman R, and most of us can't tell the difference. Heck, my co-pilot was a senior instructor from the Porsche Driving School and HE couldn't tell the difference! Of course, $60K is a lot to spend on a Sunday morning car, which is why most of us are here on an air-cooled Board...

Where are the plastic windows and louvers in the rear quarters? Why not just call it an RS and actually do it right?
This is why the spirit of the original marquee has been reborn into all of us, and it is us that has to take the charge to consistantly remind the masses that what now calls itself Porsche is not the passion, the ingenuity nor the die-hard attitude that it was in the 70's...not what put it on the map as something to respect. Let the panty waists buy the marketing crap, let the yuppies and polishers do what they will when they bench race cars they know nothing about at starbucks...and let us continue to do what we do best; drive and showcase what can be done with less not more, and display the simple fact that brought most of us to the 911 chassis...we are drivers, we strive to conquer and pilot these machines - not the other way around. History never dies, it simply finds someone worthy - and Porsche is definately not worthy as they still believe the crap they dish out. If the GT2 RS and 918 gave a glimmer of hope to the return of the Motorsports division to what it once was, this takes it another step back in the wrong direction. Reaper |

Bravo, sir! That is sig worthy... |
what now calls itself Porsche is not the passion to throw huge sums of money at race car development nor the die-hard attitude to lay waste to the company's bankroll that it was in the 70's... when Ferdinand Piech nearly bankrupted the company
- nonetheless, this R is piffle |
Reaper nailed it
I think the Cayman is an excellent car, and I'd choose it over a 997 (which is not a 911 in my book) very day of the week, but this thing has NOTHING to do with "R" Pretty sad Porsche has come to this... |
So this is the Porsche we get with VW helm? Looks like the marketing department Rules. Boy those poor engineers have been beat down to the basement.
