throwout bearing guide tube removal

If it isn't one thing, it's another. I've spent three times more time trying to get a few things unstuck than I have disassembling.

This time it's the throwout bearing guide tube. According to Bentley, I can make a hooked tool out of a piece of wire and lever the tube off. No dice. That thing is stuck on like it's been cemented. A rap with a mallet didn't help. I don't want to break anything. (Well, I do, but nothing on the car.) Is there any reason someone would have used an adhesive? Is it ok to try some heat?

tube

Is it the late style 915 with the 2 screws, normaly they aren't bad, try bumping the "ear" where the screws hold it with a drift or big screw driver to move it a few degrees (where the ear hangs over) then use a hook style prybar, lady's foot, where you can get under it and move it out a bit at a time each side.

Thanks, Mike. That worked. My neighbor pulled while I tapped with a mallet. We had to put a lot of might into it, though.

tube

Be careful when installing the seal, measure from one end of the tube to a point on the old seal to be sure the new one is in the right spot and also not in backwards, just use oil on the "O" ring and blue loctite on the screws

if you rotate it a bit and use TWO small crowfoot prybars, it comes right out.

Be carefull with it! Mine had some kind of kink/burr and the throwout bearing would get stuck on it... took 6 months to figure out what the hell was going on!

Thanks for the tips! I'm going to replace it, as it looks like it's been dragged behind the car. Just waiting on the seal to arrive.
