I am so ashamed. I rented . . .

The Fast and the Furious last weekend. I thought that something good would come out of the movie. A movie with fast cars has to have a Porsche, Ferrari or Lambo in it, right? The only good part of the movie was the 700hp supercharged Charger and I think I would rather draw a picture of one and llok at it than this movie.

What were those people thinking making that movie? The movie actually made me a little sick to my stomach.

My wife will never let me select another movie. I am so ashamed . . . .

Yeah, it was pretty darn bad. I really like the one guy bragging about his "programmable Motec exhaust" or some such nonsense.

I've found it can be really disappointing/frustrated to see movies or news regarding subjects in which you are well-versed. They always commit some major screw-ups. Kinda makes you wanna do like that Japanese gang and blow up somebody's car.

Hahahahahahahaha....I was just in your shoes!

Wife stopped by the video store to rent a couple movies on her way home. Being the considerate wife she is, she picked one movie she wanted and one she "thought" I would want to see.

Mine was The Fast and the Furious.

So I gave the movie the benefit of the doubt and watched it all.
It wasn't terrible, but it was far from good.

Most of the "Tech talk" in the movie was way off base...muffler bearings, laptops, nitrous, and stuff. And where the hell did these kids all get the $$$ to build these cars?

I had no expectations of seeing anything but Rice in it....and thats all there was other than the crazy kid with the Riced-out Jetta.

The Charger was cool though!

Nick.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it sucked. Hard.

A bit of a minor revelation--

Did anyone catch the reference about the first *****box the lead character was driving--his cop boss said something on the order of $80k?

Now, why would you spend that much money on a *****box, when in the end, you're still left with a *****box??? Why not just buy a Viper and spank the snot out of everyone, no mods necessary?

Oh, and when is someone going to tell these jokers that a rear wing on a front wheel drive car is counter-productive?

Sorry, I just see too much of this cr@p on the streets around here.

You guys just saved me a couple hours of my life (at least one - picking it up at the video store, watching 15 minutes and realizing it is a piece of crap, and retruning it!). I could not even convince my kids that it may be worthwhile.

I received the Sylvester Stallone racing movie (name escapes me)for X-mas and there was another one that was horrible. Don't waste your good money for that either!

It's hard for me to believe that any movie could be worse than 'Driven'. What a load of self-serving drivel.

The one redeeming thing....

If it makes you feel any better I saw it in the theatre.

The only thing that makes this movie anything more than a crappy remake of Point Break, is to drinking once for every time the NOS logo is displayed and twice for each time someone says "NOS". Give yourself 30 minutes and you wont care what kind of non-sense they are talking about.

Nick, you're tougher than I. 1/2 hour was all Cindy & I could stomach.

And a sad P.S. A 19 year old girl,a passenger in a Honda Civic, killed in Portland, Oregon last friday night...yep, two rice cars racing. Driver suffered only a broken leg. Net result..one dead girl, and two (driver of other car arrested) young guys with shattered futures. What makes this really sad? There is a sanctioned 1/8 drags at PIR for these rice boys...cheap entry fee, minimal tech inspection requirements.

You want driving movie? Buy Le Mans

This 30 year old Steve McQueen movie has the best racing scenes ever. Forget the plot, and enjoy the racing.

This is the Editorial review from Amazon.com:
Quote:
A classic auto-racing movie starring Steve McQueen, Le Mans puts the audience in the driver's seat for what is often called the most grueling race in the world. The French auto race Le Mans is a 24-hour affair through the French countryside, a demanding ordeal for any driver. McQueen (Bullitt, The Great Escape) plays the American driver, locked in an intense grudge match with his German counterpart even as he wrestles with the guilt over causing an accident that cost the life of a close friend. McQueen is his usual stoic magnetic self, and the racing sequences are among the best ever committed to film. A solid character-driven story combines with raw visceral power to make Le Mans a rich tapestry of action and thrills. --Robert Lane -

I must agree that F&F left much to be desired. The movie was bad enough, but the car scenes were not even that great. Personally I did like the Supra that they built up and the RX7 and S2000 weren't bad either. It was funny to see the Supra race that Ferrari though. If they had done everything that they had talked about to that "Jap-Spec" Supra then it should have been a 10-11 second car and the race wouldn't have even been close!

I recently sold my '99 Civic Si that I had modified a little and I do miss the car very much. In the Import Scene's defense, not every Honda or import that is modified is a ricer. As for the movie, yes almost every car in their was "riced" up. I also fail to see a reason for putting a large rear wing on the car unless it is a dedicated track car. That to me is definitely rice.
Just my $0.02.

Heeeeyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! Go easy on "Driven". I was in that movie. My first movie effort!! Actually it was pretty bad, I will admit.

I worked on the Panasonic Swift for the 2000 Cart season. They filmed at most of the races. It was kinda entertaining though.

At the Cleveland race, I was flat towing our car back to the paddock through a thick crowd of people. We use a electric cart to tow the car from the paddock to pit lane and back. I was on the horn to get people out of the way. When the crowd was clearing, there was this older man in a wheel chair scurrying to get out of the way (I was rushing to get back to our trailer) as I was yelling at him to PLEASE MOVE. As he turns his head to look back at me, I then realized it was Burt Reynolds I was somewhat embarassed. All I could think to myself was DOHHH!

Oh well, so much for a movie carreer!

Chris

I particularly liked the way that in F&F they refer to "10 second car", as in 1/4 mile, then each race lasts about a minute and a half.

Fast & Furious

My Porsche buddy and I felt the way most of you do about this show. One thing I noticed though, is that the storyline was a very close copy of "No Man's Land" with Charlie Sheen. Some of the scenes were word for word. Cop gets into car circle as mechanic to bust main bad guy. Becomes bad guy's friend and falls for bad guy's sister. Fights bad guy's foes and reveals himself in the end. This time though he lets the bad guy go. Charlie Sheen got shot in his. Bad movie, but had some good car photography and CGI. Tore up the best & probably the most valuable car. Actor Vin Diesel was in "Pitch Black" too. A shaved head Rocky type. Uhhh!

A couple of weeks ago when I visited Tyson Schmidt, he treated me to a "drive" on his new X-BOX.
Suffice to say, I wrecked a *lot* of cars in about 1/2 hour of playing.
Made me feel like one of those losers in the F&F movie

That's funny! My wife picked out this same movie for me to see, thinking I would like it. "You had to see that *other* racing movie..." (Driven) As if they're similar!

Actually, she watched it and enjoyed it somewhat... She's a pretty cool wife, we just refinanced the house and she suggest that I use most of what's left over to fix up the 911. I'm not talking about a couple hundred bucks either...

Yup, got me a keeper.
