oil tank fitment in early car
I have some issues to sort. This one is the oil tank. I'm putting a 76 turbo engine into the 71 911t. I have no tank now and will need to source one anyway. What tanks will go into that year and keep in mind that I am using the scavenge system in the turbo engine to drain into the tank. If I had to, I assume I could get a regular later non turbo tank to drain the turbo line into. So will later tanks bolt in or not? And then, I'll need the cooler issue resolved as well......but first things first eh?
Thanks in Advance. |

You need a 69-71 tank.
72 was in front of the wheel 73 had the filler neck on the other side. 74- tanks have the filler neck on the other side which will require you to cut the inner fender sheet metal to make it fit. As it so happens I have a very nice 71 tank that has been ultrasonically cleaned by pacific oil cooler (at a cost of over $200). Send me a PM if you are interested.

![]() ![]() Buy a real turbo tank from someone here on Pelican. The 71 T has small dia DN16 oil fittings and the original oil tank will not work. You will need a new rubber "S" supply hose from tank into the motor. There are two lengths, so get the one that matches the location of the motor. It depends on the tranny used. Buy new correct DN20 oil lines from our host or have them made. Most used hoses are too old & dried out/hard. You will need a turbo sump line to the tank as well. Sounds like a great combination. Good luck. Len ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 11-19-2010 at 03:57 AM.. |

John has it correct. You can install the later tank but this requires cutting the sheetmetal. The mounting stud dimensions are the same.
BTW of you install the early tank then you.must match.the engine oil cooler. The early line and oil suction side hfrom the bottom of the tank has a threaded fitting where the later is a push on hose and clamp. The oil coolers are interchangable other than this lower fitting.

Sounds like the later tank. I have lots of cutting/welding to do anyway. Thanks

Here is my 71 with an 87 tank. Not that big of a deal to fit it in, especially with the engine out. The turbo tank may be different, however.
