Separating G50 from engine
Did the drop. Removed the fork shaft. Engine is on an ATV jack. Transmission is hanging over the edge. Loosened the four (4) bolts securing the transmission to the engine. Transmission rocks slightly left/right and up/down, but I can't separate the two. Have tried supporting the transmission in various ways (front & center) over a a furniture dolly. No luck. Any tips?

As long as the fork shaft is completely out and you've got the four nuts (three regular and one barrel/inhex nut for starter) fully removed, that trans has to come off. There's nothing else holding the engine & trans together.
It's easy to have the trans hung up on the guide tube-release bearing connection if you don't have the trans at the precise elevation to release the pressure exerted on the guide tube by the release bearing. |
Cross shaft is out. Starter removed. Three other nuts removed. Car is an '87 with 100K miles. Original clutch. I attached a line to the ATV jack supporting the engine and a winch to the transmission. Still stuck. Seems like more than an alignment issue going on.

Left the engine/transmission under tension overnight. Sprayed penetrant into the clutch area. Wiggled, jiggled, and rocked. Could rock it up and down side to side. Sprayed more penetrant in the AM. While just standing there I heard a slurp sound and saw the transmission had slid out to the nuts which were on loose. Problem solved.

Dang, that is one stubborn transmission. Well, you got it off, what components are you putting in?

When youre replacing the clutch make sure you order the later shaft on the G50 that the throwout bearing rides on.

I will be ordering the updated fork from our host and will be putting in a spring centered clutch. Lots of other things while you're in there including new fuel lines which look like they could use an update.
