i got mine from world upholstery, domestic pile. if i was building a show car i would have gone for the sliverknit but for my needs it was more than enough and i saved a few hundred dollars.
get a big piece of cardboard and lay it on the ground/bench. flip your carpet over and coat all the edges (i went 3-4" deep on all edges) and let the overspray fall on the cardboard. if it isn't facing up it's kind of hard to get it on the carpet. just be sure not to lay the next piece on the overspray. i also would put on two sets of rubber gloves each time. your gloves will get glue on them and become sticky, so peeling off the top layer gives you a fresh set to work with and less down time. if you do get some 74 on there strangely enough i found that armor all cleaning wipes (non-lint version) work very well for removing it. just sort of pick at it with the wipe in your fingers acting as a barrier between your skin and the carpet. be sure to do it before the glue dries though. |
Thank you my friend! Still need your cell, just in case.
As far as I can tell and based on all my research all this takes is time and patience. The only necessary talent is the ability to enjoy thinking a lot, the patience to go slow and figure it out, and pride in doing things oneself even though it'd be easier to write the check. If I can install and customize a 997SC into a 530HP monster, can I not handle something as simple as carpet? Granted, I cannot tailor myself a suit, yet I can build a rather complex engine.... i'll install your carpet if you put a supercharger on my SC :)

The carpet I put in was the lighter weight version of Appbiz carpet, not Silverknit. I would think Silverknit will be even easier to use as it is just plain heavier and denser. No fume inhaling is necessary if you put on a respirator mask. ;) |
super77 is only rated to 100F. when i ran out of 74 with only the door pockets to go i called 3m and asked them about 77 and 90 as they were the only versions available locally. they told me both were not suitable for my needs and that 74 was needed.
everyone has their own experiences and results, in my case the 77 did not stand up to the test. i've been building consoles and speaker cabinets for years using 77 with ozite so it wasn't a case of too much being used. |
Dang, it's so fun and easy to remove the carpet - not so much on the install though. I wouldn't attempt half the projects on my car without threads like this.

hopefully you removed all the pieces intact. it helps to lay the new ones over the old ones to see where it should be when applied. helps with placement and all.

I was going to fly to SanDiego for a week to a guy's supercharger installation (in a 997C4S) but he decided to spend the money on suspension components instead. Here's a thread of my supercharger installation- lots of pics! The Sequel: SC install, DIY, Justatoy to Cattman - 6speedonline.com Forums CATTMAN |
