Clutch trouble.

Clutch trouble is preventing me from driving my 3.6 and finally being able to add mine to the 3.6 thread.

Here's a pic of the cable route, sorry, crap pic, was rolling around under the car, see the cable goes up over the throttle linkage and down to the bell housing, I tried it under the throttle fulcrum but that was terrible. That look ok? The route looks fine with the adjusting nuts all the way forward, with them all the way back it looks a bit uncomfortable.

Now see the clutch arm, I can rock it between two positions, forward and back, see the two pics, its almost as if the omega spring isnt doing its job, the two positions for the arm you see in the pics correspond to the pedal all the way up and the pedal being about an inch or so down. Car selects gear fine. Is the omega spring shot? Clutch cable is about a year old and done about 500 miles, pedal box has been re-bushed and pedal and cable are all nice and free.

All the way back against the stop.

Forward a bit.

Clutch arm does that rocking back and forth with the cable disconnected. I can let go of it and it stays in either position.

Youre missing the clutch return spring.

Oh yes, so I am, forgot about that, I've got it somewhere, but that would tend to pull the arm even more forward? No?

Ive been reading up on previous posts and in the Bentley.

When you do the levering thing to fit the omega spring in place it should thwack hard back against its stop right? And be held there under spring pressure by the omega? If that’s correct then mine is not doing it.

Mine is the same. The omega spring only begins to apply tension once the arm is moved past it's forward position. The routing is the same on my car as well. I would also suggest installing the missing spring and not try to guess what impact it might have on the overall operation.

Are you certain the cable is properly seated against the firewall? There is a small lip around it's proper seating surface and if it is not seated it alters the location of the cable mount, which is what you seem to be describing.

What types of clutch problem are you having? You didn't describe.

~Thanks.

The pedal does not come all the way up to the top, it comes to rest about anc inch or two lower than the brake pedal, I can lift it back up, and it stays there, but wont return on its own accord.

Then you need to go to the 15mm nuts on the bottom of the trans and move the shield forward. The pair of 15mm nuts are the key to adjustment. Release the rear nut and turn the front nut against the fixture and feel the clutch pedal change.

I just spent the afternoon looking at this.

There was two problems.

First I have shifted the clevis from 17mm to 22mm of engagement in the cable at the front end. that allows me to get the back end adjusted.

Then followed the Bentley instructions and its fine.

Second, I noticed that the pedal return spring, has a gap in the springy bit, where it passes over the throttle pedal shaft, my car is right hand drive, it seems that the spring fouls on the throttle pedal shaft and holds the clutch pedal down a bit. Currently its not fitted but all seems fine.
