Can You HELP Identify This HOSE??
Hi All,
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1290374928.jpg 1981 911 SC 3.0 no mods all original. The hose in my fingers - any ideas what it goes to or is for? I just found it today when I was replacing my Oxy sensor. I don't know what to do with it until I know what it does. Thanks. Ray |
Charcoal canister hose. Believe it originates in that back corner (corner in your pic), travels behind the engine to the passenger side inner fender and hooks into the charcoal canister. Another hose returns from the canister and hooks into your air box just above where the #1 and #2 intake runners meet the box.

The charcoal cannister is inside the engine bay behind the oil filler in my '83SC. I have read the other hose connects to a fitting in the engine tin on the drivers side but mine is just a gaping hole (which seems pretty common).

The outlet hose connects to the air box above where #1 and #2 intake runners meet the air box. If "engine tin" is a generic term, no problem. But it connects to a plastic male tube that simply brings the vapor into the air box to be combusted.
There is also a small hose that hooks onto the canister - on the inlet side. That hose originates in the same back corner as in your picture. The inlet side faces the front of the car and the single outlet is looking right at the oil filter. |
So, do I need a charcoal canister?? It looks like the previous owner removed it.

Those in the know say yes. Search on "charcoal canister" in the advanced search option for more info.
There are some (or one) user that wants to buy any canisters that folks don't want so he may be a good source for one. |
