Any adapter for big cigerette lighter socket

I've been searching with little success to find an adapter to properly fit a smaller US accessory charger plug into the larger cigarette lighter socket of my 911. I'm tired of fiddling with plastic gaskets, tape and rubber washers to try to get a snug fit and not have my phone charger falling out after every bump. The home remedies just aren't doing the job.

I "pulled" the side prongs out a little on my GPS charger and it works great.

Insert a tool of sorts between the prong and the charger body, then just pry the prongs out a bit.

I believe I used a flat blade screwdriver, inserted it flat and then turned it just a tad. The prong will have more "arch" to it when done.

I swapped mine out for a universal replacement but used the original trim ring and knob (requires some adapting). It looks completely stock but adapters fit and replacement elements (as a non-smoker I'll never need one) are cheap.

Phil

As mentioned, R Shack has a "bushing" to take up the slack. Or did.

I've searched Radio Shack, local AT&T cell phone store, Fry's electronics, and did not find any simple adapter at any store or even online. There has got to be something out there with as many European cars and American gadgets that are out there!

I'm not interested in switching out the whole socket since I heard that was tricky to get out. Also permanently modifying the plugs is not acceptable since I want to be able to use them in my other car which has the smaller socket. Pulling out the side prongs on my GPS doesn't seem possible without breaking something inside.

Sounds like you talked yourself out of options, good luck with a fix.

I'm quite certain you can make something, if you are handy....maybe use an old 35mm film canister as a start, you really just need to find that sweet spot where everything makes contact, then make a sleeve that keeps the plug in that spot, notch the sleeve around the contacts for your device, slide it on when using it in the 911.

Mine works just fine. You can unscrew the end cap and see what it looks like.

I too can use my Iphone charger and GPS in mine. Luck of the draw, I guess. The film cannister idea for a shim, is a good one.

I read that Belkin adaptors are a little fatter and fit better, so I bought this one on ebay (search for "New Belkin Micro Auto Car Charger For iPod iPhone #9868") which is a plug in for usb. For $2.99, I can't go too wrong as most things accept usb.

The shim I got with my V1 works great.

Hey
2 or 3 short strips of electrical tape stuck 90 degrees and in between the spring contacts of the plug works great. The tension is adjustable by adding or subtracting a piece of tap from either side. I made my first piece of tape shorter, and increased the length of each successive piece slightly longer, creating a ramp effect. Problem solved!

Do you think this would be a plug and play fitment?

I believe Porsche's official nomenclature is Cigar Lighter...

I'm using a Belkin Micro Auto Charger F8Z445. It works well but sits a little deep into the socket.
