Targa bar re-finish
So I've been doing some paintwork and determined that I wanted to paint by targa bar, but then thought I might strip it for a brushed aluminum look or paint it the same color as the rest of the car.
In lieu of just doing whatever, I thought I'd let you guys choose, although I think I already know the answer you guys are going to give me. Here is my car now, but I am also in the process of going back to black on the wheels. ![]()

Mine's stock brushed aluminum, but I've also got chrome trim on my car (76). With all the black trim on yours, I'd stick w/ black if it was mine. Great looking car you've got there!

I never liked the painted roll bar look on red or white 911's, especially with body color rims. To Miami Vice for my taste. Personally I like the way your car looks as is.
If you do go the brushed stainless direction. I think you will also need to do the windshield, Targa window trim and door handles for it to look right. Otherwise you are going to have what in my opinion is going to look like a piece of tin foil stuck on top of the car. |

I agree with the others. I think the bright targa bars looks best, but only if you have the other bright work to compliment each other. For you car definitely the black, unless you will replace the rest of the trim. Red? Oh god no!!

Keep 'em coming!
I am in agreement on the brightwork...all the trim would have to be done to match, which could be more work than I'm looking for.
I'm also not sold on the body color either, as it is a little out there...but after seeing Don Gilbert's car on this forum the idea kind a grew on me. Here is his car with factory hard top. ![]() CGARR you car is beautiful!!!! Check out the efhughes3 below, as it was my inspiration to consider going with the polished look. ![]()

The bar is s/s, and as noted, all of the trim should match, IMO. Man, I love the look of that red Targa above!

I'm in the process of changing over the black trim to polished. I agree with the posters above that you need to go all the way and polish/anodize/chrome all the trim along with the Targa bar. It looks great once done IMO. I've mirror polished the Targa bar, polished and anodized the window and door top trim, and chromed the quarter window frames, door handles and trim that goes under the rear window seal. It's an expensive exercise though. A good option for the trim is buying old chrome trim and having it polished or refreshed. You can message user "greenkaw" without the quotes. He has a nice full set of chrome trim for a Targa that he wants to sell.

Black trim, black wheels then stick with a black Targa bar.
The black car with black trim pulls off the polished bar nicely though. Just don't think a red car can pull it off. The Rolling Stones ......I see a red door and I want to paint it black..............

Powder coat!!
I had the PO's black paint starting to peel off mine. Since my car had the black anodized trim from the factory, I opted for going satin black for the targa bar cover. I had it media blasted (crushed walnut, not sand!) and then powder coated- looks great!
I just pulled the window trim out and had it done to match... Best- Matt

Hey all,
My car is kalahari beige metallic. 81 targa. I'm on an iPhone and can't upload a pic, but it looks like the color of sand. Really beautiful. Do you think a painted Hoop might work? I found a platinum metallic targa, which is nearly an identical color. My wheels are bbs basket weave style wheels, also painted in kalahari beige, so they arent the bright gold of most bbs style wheels. Anyway, lemme know what you think: ![]() Michael Last edited by UrQuattro; 11-22-2010 at 08:22 PM.. |
