Hmmm... This is probably overkill, but here are a few things you might consider bringing, including what you already mentioned:
1.) spare DME relay. 2.) fan belt. 3.) fuses. 4.) oil. 5.) spare exterior lighting bulbs. 6.) couple of ratchets with 8, 10, 13, 17, & 19mm sockets, extensions, etc.. (assuming you also have your factory tool set). 7.) can of "fix-o-flat". 8.) cell phone and #'s to P-car mechanics/dealers along the way. 9.) tire gauge. 10.) lots of CD's! 11.) detailed atlas/map book. 12.) flashlight. 13.) rain-x? 14.) old towel/rags. 15.) fire extinguisher. 16.) Camera. I am sure someone will let me know what I am forgetting! Have fun on the road trip, and take some pictures for the board if you get the chance! |

Re: road trip coming up, what should i take in case...
well that sounds reasonable
![]() i don't need the map though, i've made this trip for the past 10 years, this will be the first time driving my 911 down (being i just got it in sept). there will be a small convoy of us, this is also the first year i'll be staying there (florida) for a week on vacation. i can't wait to take the targa top off ![]() bell 85'911 targa |

1. A cell phone
2. A platinum card 3. A warm blanket to wrap up in while you're waiting for the flatbed tow truck. ![]() |

-Maybe an extra red relay. Since it can be used as a substitute for black one too.
-Ice chest? -Sunblock? Hmmm, it's a Targa? ...lots of towels. ![]() Good luck and have fun! ---------------------- Bob Sauerteig '87 Carrera |

i think i should be alright, if anything major does happen, i'm preppared to rent a uhaul/trailer of some sort to get her home. i had a mojor mechanical faliure 3 years ago at spring break due to my own stupidity, so i know what not to do ![]() i took her to my fathers property a couple of months ago (about 3.5 hours of fast curvy hilly mountain roads) in upper pennsylvania and she loved everything i could throw at her. so with the new tires/alignment and some of the small electrical issues i had fixed i think it'll be a succesfull trip/vacation. i'll have plenty of pics though (they'll be downloaded to a friends server) bell 85'911 targa p.s........my targa top doesn't leak so i won't need the towels ![]() ![]() |

the list isn't too bad if properly packed
![]() i have enough room under the hood for either the targa top or a couple of small bags and also back seat space (i lost some room under the hood after i finished my audio install) there will be myself and a friend in my pcar (my other friends will be driving down in thier wrx's/talons/s-er's) so i think the only thing i'll really have to watch is for the sneaky cops singling me out from the rest of the cars. i'm pretty confident in her durability, we'll find out for sure in daytona and south beach ![]() bell 85'911 targa |

Having experienced the situation - fortunately within 2 miles of the Mom In Law - a clutch cable would be a good idea. Unless of course you know when it was last replaced and you're sure it's in good condition.

Bell? Really..I was joking too. My advice would be to take the tools and spare parts that you would feel competent using along a roadside. And please remember the basic rule...anything you will find yourself really needing? On a road trip? You won't have it with you. So..#1 Cell Phone, #2 warm blanket....just in case!

Bell,
I have made several trips to Fla in my 78 911 SC and never had any problems. However, when I do travel, I take a good selection of hand tools - ie: metric wrenches, both box wrenches and sockets, screwdrivers, allen wrenches and so on. Multimeter, jumper cables, a good flashlight (three cell mag light) and air compressor for spare. In addition, I would definitely bring along the repair manual which has info on the wiring diagram of the vehicle. This will definitely help get you out of a bind if a electrical problem occurs. If your P-car has been running without any problems, then you should be in good shape and shouldn't have any problems. Steve |

Don't forget your rubbers!
If your car is in good shape , just call Porsche NA and sign up for the flat bed towing service for $50 a year. Cheap insurance . Also an issue of Pano had listings with Phone numbers for PCAers all over the country . Good for referalls to a wrench. Have a good trip !

I would suggest a clutch cable sleeve though I may be a bit paraniod. When I first purchased my '73 in Santa Monica and drove it to Connecticut, I had it checked by a local mechanic and had the obvious done (oil change, fuel flush, tires, fluids, etc..).
A few hours into the trip the damned clutch cable sleeve snapped while downshifting on an off ramp. After a bit of careful rpm management I creeped into a dinner and waited 8 hours for a mechanic to find the part and me.... Not sure how many mechanics there are between OH and FLA. Enjoy the trip. A 911 is a beautiful thing on a long trip!
