How difficult is it and was the weight savings worth it ?

heat tube

sda..If you are referring to the tubes that run along the sides of the 911, than they are behind the inner rocker panel. Both the outer and inner rocker panels are welded in place and must be cut off to access the tubes, and must be re-welded them back in place. With both the inner and outer sheet-metal removed you must check your chassis alignments before welding back into place. Do a search for rocker replacement guide for more info. I remember seeing some old cutup chassis but I do not remember offhand if the tube is one piece with a paper hose covering the middle or two metal ends with a paper hose in the middle. Worth or not worth is a personal preference, there are owners that will remove a single screw for weight savings. If you do decide to remove the heat tubes post pics for the forum members.

you honest to god don't want to do this................trust me I've cut up a 911 and that is the uni-body backbone of the car. Cardboard tube from the C-pillar forward to the A-pillar wrapped in fiberglass floss/roving.

You'll gain more weight savings by taking a big poop before any race than cutting up that area of car that is triple wall thick.

Early tube is pretty thin steel. I don't think it weighed much at all. While I had everything removed under the door for rust repairs, I cut it out and made a new straight tube out of like 24ga galvanized sheet, to run coolant lines to the front.

There is some pictures in this thread:

There is nothing in the rockers worth going after for weight until you are down to ounces.
