What do H4 lenses say on the actual lens??

Hey all,

Finally got my car back from the shop after the fender bender. It looks fantastic, I must say, however, I've got a question. Before my hit, I had H1's. The shop actually got a pair, but they were cracked when they arrived at the shop. Couldn't wait any longer.

In any event, Insurance is gonna give me about a grand to cover the additional loss (yeah!!). I've even got the old assemblies, which are rebuildable for sure. I think they only need lenses. Anyhow, the shop put on stock style headlight rings, the wide cup type, and I'm not sure about the lenses. I know there are two types of h4 lenses (one with the thin paintable trim rings, and ones with a "stock" look).

OK, my main question....the lenses say "sylvania" on them, which leads me to believe that I have "stock" type lenses too. Is that true? What do the H4 lenses say on the front (both styles)? Not a big deal, just want to know what I've got (I'll be upgrading soon).

Any input is appreciated.

regards,

It sounds like you got what i got-stock, sealed beam headlights. No "H" of any kind on mine. Oh yeah, and they sukc too! I'm going to change mine as soon as I get a chance now that I know there is an "easy" improved replacement.

Doug and Bill,

Thanks so much. Totally cleared up that issue for me. Doug, my front end is now IDENTICAL to your car!! Your car looks terrific. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the new "stock" stuff. I'll probably sell it, but if it's not worth much, I'll keep it in case the next owner (4 or 5 years) wants the stuff. H4's for now. Don't think I'll bother with the H1's again, too much of a pain, and really doesn't seem to increase the value of the car.

So, I've got a stock set and a repairable set of H1's with chrome trim in very close to perfect shape. Is it easy to replace the lenses on the H1's?

thanks again.

regards,

Jon--
there are 2 types of H4's (Bosch & Hella - Pelican sells them both).
the Hella H4s retain the stock look and drop right in and use the existing headlight buckets & trim rings.

the Bosch H4s are the ones Bill Verburg has shared.

On my '85 Targa, I opted for the Hellas, which I like alot. I did change one thing however - I sprayed the plastic trim bring black, to match the rest of the car's trim

Depends upon which look you like best

Bob, the line you refer to is a "Mag-Bra", it comes as a 4-piece set: (2) for the hood and (2) for in front of the headlights. I like it. You can get it at www.Magbra.com

OT: Since you are from new zealand- what can you tell me about the Fischer&Paykel "Dishdrawer" dish washer? Wife just ordered one for our home- I'm a little skeptical.
