Paint shop advise

Now that the weather has turned before putting the 911 to bed for the winter I's like to get a quality paint job done. Does anyone have suggestions for a good body/paint shop in North East Ohio?

You don't provide much information. Just dropping off a Porsche at your local crash restoration place is a mistake without a lot of planning.

Do you have rust? How much?
Has there been previous damage?
How is your rubber? There is $1000 plus in rubber on the car. Who buys? You and save the markup?
Is it time to replace your headliner? The windows must be removed and not all glass people know Porsche's.
Does the shop have good access to qualified labor?
Will they guarantee getting it done on time? Paint shops can be very slow.
To do it right the front fenders should be loosened up. Bumpers removed? Lights off?
Expect to pay $10K for a good job. Squirting paint is just part of the process.

I just got my 79 Targa out of the paint shop here in Boise. The cost was about $6k not including windshield seal and a lot of other "rubber" and other parts, new fasteners, etc.

They asked for 2 months but it took 4 months. I am very satisified with the job done. I took most of it apart and have to put it back together. I have massaged all the rubber and will reuse most of it. Replaced all seals between fender extensions etc. Replaced the mirror base rubber, windshield sprayers, door handle gaskets, etc. The total on this resto will easily be 7k in paint and related with me doing the majority of the reassembly.

In the long run it will all be worth it but if you plan to just drop the car off and pick it up done, you better be prepared to pay. My feeling is the more work I do, the more I learn about my car and the better job will be done. Be sure the shop takes a ton of pictures. My shop gave me a disk with about 200 pictures. Those pictures are a must for reassembly.

Good luck.

Probably the best paint job available in NE Ohio is at a Porsche dealer in Willoughby Ohio. They have the Lutro paint system that replicates a factory paint job with Glasurit.

Probably in the $10k range.

Red Lacquer Room in Akron is (or was) pretty high end.
