O2 sensor replacement question
 

The O2 sensor has never been replaced in my '89 3.2L. It currently has about 85K miles and the PO did not have it replaced during the 60K service as specified in the owner's manual.

The car does not exibit any of the problems associated with a faulty sensor. Is this one of those "leave it alone if it's not broken" items or is it worth doing from a preventative maintenace perspective? Its an expensive part, otherwise I would replace it without raising the question.

If it an't broke, don't fix it. In this case anyways, I think.
From past experiences O2 sensor works or they don't. It's not a time change thing like oil and plugs, in my opinion.

i would have to dissagree - its in the service schedule therefore it should be replaced at regular intervals. i know its not cheap though.

its best not to wait until it stops working don't you think? thats preventative maintenance for you!!

i must admit however that i have not changed mine, car has 86k, and i don't think its ever been replaced.

i'll just keep adding to that list............

As the sensor gets older, it's readings can change (from carbon buildup, the stress of heating/cooling, etc.). It's one of those things that should be replaced every 60-80K or so, based on average wear rates. Preventative maintenance like this will keep your car running well, and will also protect your CAT if it fails.

You don't really want to wait until it fails, as it will make the car run very rich, which can quickly damage your CAT while you're trying to figure out what is causing the problem

I'm not sure if there ever was a conclusion to this question, but...
Is there any reason we 911 owners should pay top$ for the OE part, when there is a 3 wire bosh replacement out there for $60-$70?

The only difference is that you have to cut the bosch part to fit your connector, right? :confused:
