Question Grab bag of engine parts - now what?

I completed disassembly of my new-to-me 75 Targa engine this weekend to discover that one of the previous owners had assembled a hodge-podge of stuff.

I have a 2.4L 7R mag case with the 2.4/2.7 crank, 84mm bore P&C's, 2.7L heads and cams, and the 2.7L CIS. Disassembly documented in following thread:

My Porsche project...

I'm trying to figure out what my best bet for a dependable "daily-driver" might be. I'm looking to use the car for weekend street use and long country drives with the wife.

I'm torn between making this stuff work and throwing it out to start from scratch. Do I build a solid 2.4L? Bore the case and move toward a 2.7L? Get some custom cylinders for larger displacement with the smaller spigots? Sell the parts and buy myself a used or rebuildable 3.0L?

Does anybody know if the 2.7 CIS system works well on either a 2.4 or a 3.0?

Opinions and ideas welcome!

What pistons were in it? If you use CIS, you have to use CIS pistons and cams. CIS does not like bumpy cams. A 3.0 kit will put some power in the car but not a lot of soul.

The engine has 84V53 pistons (not CIS pistons). I do have the 143/144 cams (for CIS) in the heads.

A 7R case will open to 2.7 and you dont need case savers, just put in dilivars, all 24. the cams are actually CIS T cams and S are 147 and 148. Point is you can build a 2.7 with virtually a new case because its never been heated as the 2.7 was. Good used 2.7 P&Cs arent expensive and with the injection, youre at 175 horses.

I have a disassembled 2.7 Callifornia engine, CIS is questionable, 1 head, 2 Cylinders short of complete. The parts were used along with an EBay CIS piston to rebuild my 'matching' engine. Case has timesavers. The Pistons are RS - one piston (#2) has a crunched ring groove. If you want to increase your grab bag of parts you will not believe how cheap these parts are. The parts are all pretty clean too, some media blasted. Save me the temptation of building it into a backup race motor. Send a PM if I miss any interest.

Sherwood is indeed within the PDX emission test area. I'm lucky enough to have a DEQ test facility within 2 miles of my house (sarcasm).

Budget is a hard one. I'd like to stay <$8k for motor rebuild (with me doing most of the work), but have capability to move past that if needed.

you can do that easily since you need to stick with CIS

too bad, or you could pump money into a 2.8L screamer with MFI or race type EFI until you were so deep in debt you'd have to live in the car...
