911SC body kits and conversions
Hello all,
I own a straight 1981 911SC that I want to convert (appearance-wise only for now) to either a c2/4 or Ruf yellowbird look. Does anyone know of a reliable, affordable source for either kit? betterbodies is just so difficult with regards to not accepting credit cards etc., so another option would be great. Anyone have these parts they'd like to sell? Also looking for ideas on performance enhancements, short of installing a bigger engine in her. Any help is appreciated. Rob

I have heard good things about rennspeed motorsports, http://www.rennspd.com, I am looking at one of their rear bumpers for my car. Gt racing is another option.

Here are a couple different fiberglass places. I don't know if any of them have a 964 kit or not?
http://www.gt-racing.com/ http://www.americaninternationalracing.com/ http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html http://www.rennspd.com/ http://www.tremotorsports.com/ For some Hp improvement get some SSI heat exchangers, and do a weber carburetor conversion. Rich

Thanks guy...big help...I hadn't heard of many you mentioned which is good as I researched and found little other than better bodies usa and xtreme motorsports. There is a place down here in South Florida offering the c2, complete with side skirts for $899...almost too good to be true.
Thanks again...any recommendations on who to buy the heat exchangers from?

I'd buy the heat exchangers from www.pelicanparts.com, can't think of anywhere else I would go. Here is a direct link to SSI's:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_UPrc91_pg1.htm You will have to backdate a couple of oil lines when you do the swap, as well as getting a 2 in; 1 out muffler. Pelican will have those too. Rich

That's a great idea...and one I am going to do just that...I am told they could give me 16+ more horses at the rear wheel...correct?

Add Getty Design to your list of fiberglass suppliers. My brother just bought a set of Yellowbird bumpers from Getty -- they delivered the next day and charged a fair price.

Oopps forgot about Getty. Sorry about that.
Another popular thing to do to your car to increase performance is remove weight. Which you are already doing by using fiberglass body panels. Continue that by removing the rear seats, sound deadening, etc. etc. If you find a pair of SSI's for $500 in the used parts department here you will have to have the quickest trigger finger ever, a $500 pair will sell literally seconds after posting. Throw a WTB add up and see if anyone has a set they want to get rid of, you might get lucky. I think the swap to SSI's gets less than 16 Hp, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking I usually hear something in the region of 12Hp. But that is from my weak memory banks. Converting to carbs is big bucks, but it sure changes the feel of the 3.0L engines. The throttle response is immediate and the sound is intoxicating. It is an expensive modification though. If you do a search I'm sure you can find more information than I could possibly share. By the way, welcome to the board. Oh and where are the pics of your car? Rich

What is the mileage difference between CIS and Carbs?
Do SSI's also take a hit for mileage? I'm getting 6km/L and that is already tough .... ![]()

While in travel many years ago I found this place and they have some really good kits for 911s and the price is even better. Check them out.

Hey, I went with Better Bodies. Did YB front and Back, skn side, and larger tail
![]() Added rubber spoiler up front to help with larger tail in back. There is a LOT of heat back there though, so vents are a must!! |

That is a 79SC,
I have the 74 OEM exhaust and muffler, and that made a pretty noticable difference. ZHas a short shift kit, but thats about it. Obviously carrera chain tensioner and pop-off too. It's really all you can do to increase the performace before the big dollars come in to play... |

Yeah, sorry I forgot about that, Gear ratios I think is another way to get a noticable difference in the SC. I would be really curious about this.
So how exactly would it work. 1st gear is a part of the shaft yes? so you'd have to change out the shaft to a 1st gear that has a longer pull? seems thats the best way to go, then what? I mean I will never need to go over 120 in my 911. I hear that the only problem by switching out gears is that you limit the top speed. But if teh acceleration is worth it, then I'd be okay with that maybe... Hope some more "smarter than me" guys chime in here |

Why not sell your car and buy Souk's 3.2 with Ruf wheels and bumpers?
