fresh air blower to be converted to heater blower
This can't be too hard. I have a convertible. I don't need a g@ddamned fresh air blower, and when I'm freezing my wee off, I'd like to have actual hot air actually blowing into my actual cabin.
Anyone rerouted the hosing to do this? Any ideas as to how this could be accomplished? (it was cold this morning, and we so cal ites ain't used to that)

Excellent question. I would like to know as well....
I use my car in the winter and with the heater blower busted, I have to wait a good 10-15 min. before the fan eventually blows hot air into the cabin. |

Kurt, what's up with your current heating system? It couldn't be that cold in So. Cali. My heat literally burns me out of the cabin if I have it on high! maybe we can fix your current system-I'm sure something is not working.

It's got to be well below zero before I wish I had more heat, and that's with a busted aux blower motor. Make sure your system is working the way it should before trying to kludge something up. A quick check of the flapper boxes would be the first place to look. Make sure they are moving through their full range.
I know you Californians are pretty sensitive to the cold, but you should get plenty of heat out of the stock setup. ![]()

Ok SCREW This,
For once and for all i'm going to figure this out. My car has never had heat....not even a BIT of heat. With all hoses connected, a broke blower motor, working flapper boxes... i have tried every position with the dash levers imaginable and...nothing... I did notice that when I cracked my windows open I could actually detect a bit of warm air whimping out og the defroster vent...on the passenger side... but thats it. What gives??? People say you don't need the blower motor... How about this... I have never seen anyone address this... What about the hoses that are inside the inner rockers that run from the flapper boxes to the front of the car. Is there a chance that these hoses could be blocked? I remember on my '66 Corvair when I cut open the rocker panels...the heater hose was completely deteriorated beyond recognition. Could this be my problem???

i agree with R22tech i have an '86 coupe and mine is v.warm on 3-4 setting, and i don't believe the footwell blowers work. its way to hot when i crank it up to max. - just takes a while to start working. and to us brits heaters in cars are like air con to you lucky gits over there...don't care if the cars fully loaded, its gotta 'ave a decent bit of heat. BTW - does anyone have a temparature control that actually works (the round thing in the dash), and controls the temp. I always assumed that it was electronic - till i was fiddling with my cd player and noticed a small hose dangling loose, when i had a look it had come away from the sensor. richard ![]() |

Try taking a hair dryer into the lower part of the engine compartment, and blowing it into the hoses that connect to the flapper boxes. You can then easily figure out if the tubes or the dash unit flappers are blocked. The hair dryer will put out a large volume of air (more than what would come off of the motor).

I have heat. It does work, but see, I had this really strange idea.
When I push the fan lever, I figured it'd blow more of the air type I had already selected. For instance, If I have the heater off, it should blow regular air. But if I have the heat on and the levers up, it should blow hot air. Plus any other combos. How stupid of me. The fan just blows cold air. So I only have heat when I'm moving. I'm going to reroute them soon.

Assuming the US '84 cab is similar to the UK model you will not get heat while stationary if your aux engine blower is screwed. Just like me. Also my flapper boxes are rusted out - all the heat comes in whether I like it or not. When you pull the two levers (between seats) up a micro switch should start the aux engine blower. Also there should be a three speed rotary switch on top of the same housing. This floods my cabin with hot air. The levers in the dash do this. Top level. left lever controls how much (little) fresh air comes out of the dash/face vents. Right lever controls the speed of the FRESH air fan. (more in a mo) Middle level: warmer or cooler e.g. how much fresh air to mix with the hot air. Bottom level: direct air to dash or feet So in my situation I get too hot usually - even in winter. So I turn on the fresh air fan to full to "dilute" all the hot air coming from the engine. As suggested, maybe your flappers are stuck shut.
