If this is the same episodes(s) I've seen earlier, it seems odd that the 911 owner they talk to didn't seem to really know much about 911s. He cautioned that a milky-white paste on the underside of the oil tank cap could mean a "head gasket failure"...

They had the engine out and did not adjust the valves on the 76 if I remember. Hmmm.
FWIW - Mike Brewer, the host of the show is a wiener. He is likable but my rear-end got chapped when he started bad mouthing Americans for the fat bumper guards. Just a wee bit too ethnocentric for my taste. (Top Gear's Clarkson beats the crap out of ALL cars and countries so it's fair.) So I logged onto Discovery Channel's chat forums and it seems that viewers on both side of the pond are in agreement - "Less Mike and more Edd" |

That's just the English sense of humo(ur), to knock Americans. I think it's funny. I like what they did with the 911 and also most cars, they don't overdo it and just make everything functional and presentable and have fun.
I agree, the non commercial nature of Wheeler Dealers is nice. Over here, we mainly just have muscle car DIY shows, I watch them but don't really like the custom paint jobs, tons of aftermarket parts, big stereos, etc. Wheeler Dealers is more pure to the car. Mike is OK, just understand he's a car salesman and accept his motormouth, that's his job!

I watched every show wheeler dealers have on and some twice. I really like the show and the cars they pick generally hit a sweet spot with me in that I could see myself doing the same thing. As long as you realize that Ed China's services never get added into the budget, it is hard to see what they are actually accomplishing other then producing cars for the tv production.

Haha I though I was the only one watching this show, the announcer does seem to be in your face at times but the episodes are entertaining because they are working on cool cars or ones that aren’t sold in the states.
My favorite show is Chasing Classic Cars. Did you guys see the episode last night where he went to the Canepa showroom.....drool

If I won the lottery, I think I would basically do my own version of Wheeler Dealers. Buy fun little cars, fix them up, enjoy them a little and sell them and not worry about making a profit.
I think I've seen most every episode and even typically watch the ones I've already seen.

I also enjoy it and have watched episodes more than once. Ever notice that it's always raining?

It is a good show, both Mike and Ed are as classic as the cars. Record them and watch at my leisure.
I also love the US show with the tattooed guy, can't think of the title, the shop is west coast customs, they do mod a lot but he does make some really nice looking cars.

Monster Garage - Jesse James.
Edit: Agree Mike is a definitely a salesman and ads a unique chemistry to the show. Wouldn't be the same if Tiff was in his place. Last edited by Bob Kontak; 12-01-2010 at 01:12 PM.. |

I have noticed the expresson "silky smooth" is entering daily conversation more and more!
One of the best episodes is the Ferrari Dino one when they use the special spot welding jig thingy to pull out dings, rather than just bog them like most DIYers.

he is talking about Street Customs not Monster Garage. while they both deal with cars that is where the similarities end. wheeler dealers is a good show for what it is - not too tech, not too in-depth, not too much of anything really, just entertaining. ps> there are at least 8 threads about the 911 episode on this board over the last year

No sense in messing around with the Victoria's Secret type models trying to make them "car guys." Never heard back. |

one show was about a real business that customizes cars featuring paint and audio/video additions. they strive to make it look anything but stock with costs averaging well over $20,000. it was done with the sole intention of making a profit. the other's premise was to convert a normal car into a completely different use (ie boat, garbage truck, cop car that makes donuts) but keep it looking as stock as possible with a very low budget (started at $3000 and eventually raised to $5000). this was done soley for entertainment purposes. the host's choice of ink, or not, had nothing to do with the show and was just a coincidence (or maybe a casualty of living in california :P). oh ya, while street customs was based out of west coast customs the show monster garage was done at a rented space specifically for the show and had no name. i loved both shows and saw every episode of each.

Ok ok okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy already - you win.
I liked the show where Jesse James made the flying car and the FAA inspector wanted to fly it first and James would not let him. |
