watched the video- If it were colonoscopy you certainly don't want to see all that gook layin around. .http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/puke.gif Where does one find a bore scope?

I am sure I didn't fill any drain holes. The holes were about 1/16" side by side but not even.

The Red arrow indicates the location of the holes I welded shut. The blue arrow I think is one of the drain holes.

The purple dot is the location of the holes I welded shown from the top. This pain looks a little different from my pan but I think the blue circles are the drain holes you are referring to also?

I notice that your suspension and the one seen by boroscope do not have the small reinforcement panel that goes above the suspension mounts. Does anyone know for what years or applications this reinforcement was used? Paul

PJH69911- can you post pics for reference?

pjh69911 12-08-2010 07:04 PM

here is the driver side- I spliced a new piece to the old but it reinforces the suspension bolt areahttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291867431.jpg

drcoastline 12-12-2010 07:38 AM

That is a bit different. What year is that? Do you have a shot of trhe whole area?

Here is both sides and the second picture shows it with the tank support panel welded over top. It is a 1972http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292178988.jpg

From your photos those reinforcements are under the tank support. So would not be visible in my photos. They may be on my car just not visible. I would like to know from others more knowledgeable are these reinforcements on all cars?

drcoastline 12-12-2010 10:19 AM

I'm also noticing the threaded bolt holes in the first picture so I am thinking they must be in there how else would my suspension bolt up?

pjh69911 12-12-2010 11:20 AM

look back to the photo of Boba's where he lifted the tank support panel. There are threaded posts but no reinforcement panels. I too would like to know if they were used on all years, or added or discontinued at some point

I see what you are talking about now. That's interesting.

P201C Reinforcement front suspension mount 14.00*

*Part P201C is highly recommended to be welded in after suspension has been bolted to
car for correct placement. These reinforcements give extra strength to the studs, reducing
flex and reducing the possibility of the studs ripping out.

The reinforcement or doubler should be installed with all front pans. It is a separate part # from the pan itself and has to be ordered separately. It would be used up thru 1989 year. In other words all torsion bar cars should have these installed.

edit: The above reference is from Restoration Design and is their part #

Seeing these projects continues to validate the philosophy I have had for a while with these cars: if you have an opportunity or excuse to strip and refinish sheetmetal almost anywhere on the chassis, do so. It's amazing where rust can hide (and how much of it).

My 72 project is a great example. I have been grinding and welding for the better part of this year to mend the many spots where the tinworm set up shop on this car, which lived its whole life here in the wintry (i.e., salty) north.
