interest in 915 gearbox rebuild kit

Hey there fellow pelicans,

Quite sometime ago I posted a question asking if there would be any interest to the DIY guys and gals out there for a complete kit for rebuilding their 915 gearbox.

It seemed like there might be at least a couple of interested parties so I have finally put all of the part numbers together and come up with a price for any of those interested. First here is what is included in the kit:

1st gear synchronizer
2nd gear synchronizer
3rd,4th,5th synchronizers
1st/2nd operating sleeve
3rd/4th operating sleeve
Mainshaft nut
Pinion shaft nut
M/S 4pt bearing
M/S bearing
Pinion 4pt bearing
Pinion bearing
Case bearing
Case bearing
Differential bearings
Gasket and Seal kit

Cost plus shipping $2500.00

Anyone still wonder why these are expensive to truly rebuild correctly now? I have tried to think of every part that should go into a complete rebuild of these gearboxes, and with the exception of replacement dogrings, (which are also available) I think that I have a pretty comprehensive list of parts here.

If anyone is looking for a project this winter and would like to have a single source for all of these parts without having to do all the work of putting them together yourself, please let me know, and I will be happy to help.

I also offer complete rebuilding services on all Porsche gearboxes, including replacement gears, as well as several LSD options for those thinking of upgrading at the same time.

Happy to help,

Erik Johnson

Daniel you read my mind and yes I have put together a kit for the 901 as well. You have a PM with a detailed list and price on this kit.

Normal retail pricing on the 901 kit fyi is actually more expensive than the 915, but due to some deals that I get on the parts, I will offer the 901 kit for $2050.00 plus shipping.

If any one is interested in the 901 or 915 kit please let me know.

Happy to help,

Erik Johnson

Mr Walker, you are most likely right, however for some reason I have not had the best of luck working with some of Wayne's people. The company that I used to work for has a couple things that we were supplying to PP here, but when I tried to get in touch with them about a few other things with my new company I never got to the person I needed, to get them listed.

I will try again though, as I think that these kits would be well received by the DIY people out there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure that "Wayne might be interested" was taken the right way.......but I crated and shipped my 915 to JW and had him rebuild (what was needed-syncros) and had it shipped back for less than $2500. BTW...still shifts like new.

How long ago? I know in the last few years 915 parts have skyrocketed in price.

Guys naturally you might not need every part in this kit, I simply wanted to put a complete kit together that would address every part that MIGHT be needed.

I too can for sure say that not every rebuild requires these parts, and that if you wanted to rebuild your gearbox on a budget, then it is certainly possible to do so for less.

As for me not getting the point, I have worked with Pelican's and Wayne for several years. I get the point, I am just trying to put something out there for people that might be interested. I apologize if this offering has somehow offended any one here, as I am fairly confident that it will not offend Wayne. I am just trying to help afterall.

the point is that you cannot promote new parts sales on wayne's forum.

He generally doesn't mind if it's something he doesn't sell himself. However, in a case like this when it's all parts that Pelican sells, it's directly competing with Wayne. Even if Wayne doesn't kill this thread, it's just poor form IMO...

Ignoring the above as I wont get into that measuring match, this kit is needed. We have all kinds of engine rebuild kits, but no trans rebuild kits? I would suggest a variation though... 1 for all the HW/seals, 1 for all the synchros/sliders, and 1 for bearings. Like me I might buy the hw and synchros, but the bearings are good so I can cut that cost out and not have to re-sell at my loss. Also, the HW/Seal kit is good if I just want to take that thing apart and review its condition.

*shrug*

Perhaps Erik and Wayne will get together now and fill the need... Perhaps not...

We've needed a 901/915/G50 rebuild book for years too...

Michael,

I think that is an even better idea. I will start working all of that up and get with Wayne about supplying this for everyone here on the Pelican site.

In the mean time if there is anyone that would like some immediate help, please let me know, and I will be happy to help with whatever you need.

Warmest Regards,
