Bursch Muffler Fitment Question

I have a Bursch muffler that was listed as fitting a 68-73. After bolting it to my 76 Targa with 73 or so heat exchangers the top of the muffler sits about 1 inch higher than the edge of the air seal sheet metal. Or to me it don't look like it will fit.

Has any one installed one of these?

I was just out there feeling around. It will be tight but it might. Thanks for the input.
