Rear Window Defrosting Re-Visited
I spent a lot of time and a little money using special striping tape all over my rear window and painted lines for days! WHen I got finished, Still NOTHING. Yes I do have current flow but I did not paint the entire lines because I only had a few Bottles of paint and thought only the missing area was needed.
I do not feel like I should have to spend between $600 to $800 for a new window glass over a Defroster. I have spent a lot of time on the Internet looking and finally found this place. Frost Fighter 2600 Clear View Defrosters I thought I was done but to make sure I asked them if I could use the kit that was from 60 to 40 inches in width for the rear window that was between 36 to 37 inches. The Answer was NO! I cannot use the Kit. I sent them a New E-Mail asking "If the lines can be trimed from 60 down to 40 inches, then why not a few more inches. I also asked if this could not be done, then could I make a "Special Order"? The Kits range from 12 to 22 inches in Height and are all in the $40 range in price. I would galdly pay $80 to $100 to fix my rear window. My question is, Has anyone here tried this kit anyway? Second, If they needed to make "Special Kits", are their others that would want this? As usual, most companies need to see between 5 to 10 orders before they feel they are needed. Let me know any maybe I can point them to this web site and we fix an expensive problem Cheaply! (My favorite word) |
Thanks, My Main problem is the Car was New In Las Vegas and then to Florida. I think this helped to contribute to the Biurning out of the Grid. Yes, the Grounds are what I use to Connect the Volt meter from the Voltage side (Drivers side)
I need a new Grid. |
This is just a guess, but the 40 inch min length threshold could be a function of the resistance - if the element cut to too short a length than it is designed for, then the lower resistance will draw more current making it hotter (fail sooner). Of course this is a guess w/o seeing the schematic from the vendor (frost fighter) or its physical configuration.
if this assumption is true, then you could get around this 'feature' with the help of a small resistor. |
I've some issues with elements not "lighting"....this thread will be helpful.....
For now,..other probelms preclude. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Stedely, you are reading my mind! My thought was to Overlap 3/4" on both sides or 1.5 inches on 1 side to give it the length. Would I need to install a resistor on just the final connection but Who would know the amount needed?
