What can you find in Wayne's Garage? (finally squeezed them all in)
Okay, I've been waiting nearly six months to get organized to the point where I could actually do this. What's in my garage right now?
- Nissan Pathfinder - BMW 325is - Porsche 356 - 914-6 Convertion - 911SC (hidden) - 2.7 911 Engine - 914-6 Engine - 3 bikes - Tons of Xmas stuff - Tools, and 2 tables - 13 shelves. For a small 2-bedroom townhouse, this is the ideal garage. It runs the length of the entire house. Check out the photos, this is quite the scene: http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02475.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02476.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02477.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02478.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02479.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02480.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02481.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02482.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02483.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/temp/DSC02485.jpg The 911 is on rollable casters... -Wayne |
Wayne,
I've never seen anything like that before in my life! How funny. What a strange garage. With the "cave like" area behind the BM and pathfinder... Neat... i can only dream... |
There's actually a very nice split-level house on top of the garage too (for my wife of course...)
-Wayne |
WOW
 I wish I had a garage that size, my 911 just fits into my garage and once I have parked it I have to take a deep breath just to get out.... The Brits dont know much about building decent sized garages:-) Many people cant believe that I actually park a car in my garage, they all think it is mostly for storage very nice, Jakes maybe I should buy my neighbours and break down the wall between;) |
Ooooohhh... now i get it...:)
A split level house. perfect for the Porsche owner... you could park your car directly under your bedroom and only be a few feet away from it. When girls aske me what my aspirations in life are...I say "to one day have my own garage". :) |
My garage is full of my dads motorbikes.:(
|
Chris, so thats why the "P" is in the snow.
Bummer!!! |
VERY Nice Wayne. But lets get that BMW and Pathfinder out, then you can work on getting the Porsches back on the road :p
I wish I had a garage like that. My brother-in-law is going to school to be a mechanic, I want him to own his own garage one day (for me to use) He already has tons of tools that will help :D Leland I agree with your asperations. Shawn |

"I wish I had a garage that size, my 911 just fits into my garage and once I have parked it I have to take a deep breath just to get out.... The Brits dont know much about building decent sized garages:-) " i'll second that. these americans have far too much space - its not good for them. richard :D |
I have a house for sale with a 1200 sq. foot garage , much like Waynes, but in Northern california. If anyones interested (sorry shameless plug).
|
http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...ool_shades.gif My Goodness! The things you have put up with for real estate in California-- and earthquakes and mudslides too!!!
Actually I am really impressed with your creativity for fitting everything in there. I feel positively wasteful for the amount of space that I've allocated to the 911 and assorted tools in my garage. My hat is off to you! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif |
makaio
thats more than my house (probably). damn you americans. richard:D :D |
I only have a small two car garage now, but in the early 90's I was in the Navy and stationed in Bremerton, Wa. (still love that area). I was a nuclear mechanic in the nav so several of my buddies were also gearheads, kind of natural I guess. Anyway, instead of renting a house together, we rented a 20 X 40 foot heated shop complete with a head(toilet). At any one time we had, in and around, three bugs, a68 396 4spd camaro, a 69 351W 4spd mustang, a 66 400 4spd charger, a few pickups, and my 30 model A basket case. We all worked on the cars and it was a GREAT time. Not exactly John Walkers shop but it did the job.
So, Leland, you can have all you want, you just need some fellow buddies you can trust with your same interests to make it happen. Dennis H. 72 911E |
I must admit that when I purchase (the British magazines) Classic Bike or Classic Motorcycle Mechanics I see the most amazing, uh, sheds I have ever seen. The "lockups" they detail mean shifting the bike from side to side to get the room you need.
What is even more amazing is the beauties that emerge from these broomclosets. Go figure, and take heart; if someone can do it in such a small space, us fat 'Mercians should be able to product a space shuttle or two from the garages we build... John Dennis: Know the Bremerton area well. Had a friend Nick who was wrenching subware. That was in the late '70s/early 80s. A lot of SS Novas over there too. I had a '57 Chevy pickup with the wraparound rear window. Several sacks of sand over the rear wheels would give me some traction off the line, but forget about it; no way to win a drag in a pickup. Memories... |
There goes my mental image of Wayne's garage looking like those in the Griot's Garage catalog.
|
Just like the previous poster I expected Wayne's gargage to be the epitomy of order. HAH...Wayne is human after all. Actually I am jealous, but not for long since I am moving to a small house next week that has a huge garage, in fact the PO built and air conditioned shop inside the garage! Once I saw that I really didn't care what the house looked like.
Wayne, your garage looks about as crowded as my friends who live over in Hermosa. The husband has a 944 and a BMW motorcylce (1100 or something) wedged in there and his wife (my old friend) thinks they are junk, just taking up space. This is on top of his truck and her CLK 430 cab, which sometimes has to site outside...she is not a happy camper. |
So is the 356 for sale?
|
Wayne, you have too many projects! That "hidden" SC doesn't look like it is getting much play.
I can relate. If I have less than 26 projects going at once I am bored. |
Its not the 26 projects that is bad, it is the I don't rember where I'm at with half of them that is.
You know what they say about inches (cubic that is) To many is just right. works with everything.:D Some guys keep the shop clean all the time, and some of us only clean it when we can't find that darn spare ignition. Dennis H 72 911E |
Wayne, how did get the SC in there?
Andy |
I wanna see you hang a car from the ceiling Wayne!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif Or maybe one of those racks. I think there is space for two more in there.
As for mess, I find that my broke 5.0 makes a good place to sit 911 stuff so it doesn't find the floor:cool: Plus the 5.0 keeps the garage from falling over! Dennis 72 911E |
"The 911 is on rollable casters... "
That's how he got it crammed in there...... Tifosiman |
Hmmm, these pics were taken *after* I had cleaned up. In reality, I'm just one of you guys with a digital camera. That's all that we (Tom and I) have every billed ourselves as. It's easy to hide or diguise yourself behind pictures that you pic and choose for the website.
Anyways, the truck and BMW are just temporary visitors, as I need the two-car spot there for the photo booth for the engine (remember, engine book?). The SC is on casters, you know, those metal roller things that you can place the tires in and then push the car around in your garage. Very useful, although I would recommend getting someone to help you push, as my back still hasn't recovered... The house is in Redondo Beach, around the corner from Hermosa, and as you can see, we don't have too much space here either. Still it's nice to be able to store 3 cars and still have a 2-bay space to work on books and stuff. The 911SC, unfortunately, is about 95% completely back together from being nearly disassembled for the 101 Book. It drives and runs very well, but it still needs the rear window installed, a few remaining pieces of carpet installed, the heater system put back into place, and a few other minor things. I unfortunately have my plate too full right now to work on it, so it had to go into storage... :( -Wayne |
"The 911 is on rollable casters... "
I was thinking for a moment that Wayne might have had a pair of midgets on standby, to wander in under that roof and wheel em out for him! Now that I would be really impressed with! :D |
Geez, Wayne, you could probably fit 3 Formula Vees suspended from the ceiling in there...get on that, will ya? ;)
|
Wayne, what did you say your address was again?
haha, just kidding of course. Nice garage. Different types of vehicles you have there, each one unique in its own way. cheers! EM |
Indeed, this is an interesting motley crue of autos. I really love the Pathfinder - it is what it is, and doesn't make any false promises. It has hauled many a Porche engine, and the carpet shows it (dark interior though).
The Beamer is the wifey's new gift, and also the project car for 101 Projects for Your BMW 3-Series. I anticipate some complaints later on this year when we have to 'share' this one. The 356 is my backup driver. Needs some work, but what 356 doesn't? A 40+ year old car always has something that is breaking on it. I just hate it when the stuff I fix breaks again. The 911 hasn't recovered from 101 Projects. I need to go through the car and have it painted. The 914-6 conversion is my favorite of the bunch. Not the best looker, but it is the fastest one in the stable, and also handles the best of any of them (kicks the 911SC). It's so well balanced, and it's a very low-mileage original 914, so there's not much rattling and/or slop in the suspension. I can't wait to get the 911S motor back into that puppy. :) -Wayne |

I hope I'm not replying too late to this posting about my husband's 5 car garage. I just signed up to be a part of your discussion so I could announce to all of you that we (oops, I) am having a garage sale! I'll post the details when Wayne not watching!
-Nori :D |
Sounds GREAT Nori! A garage sale? How much for the garage? ;)
|
Hey Wayne, when is the next book "convert your old barn or warehouse into a 30-car workspace with lift" coming out?
I suppose it's every red-blooded American man and womans dream for fourty acres and a mule. (If not that, then a reeaally big garage with kitchen and bath attached.);) metal, stone and glass.....forever |
Can't have that and live 5 blks from the beach though. Gotta cram them in there...
