Is there a Shift Knob extension?

I thouhght I saw this once. Anyone have information on one of these? I think I need one, about 1 - 2" extension for the knob?

TIA

Interesting. I wouldn't mind having the shifter lever itself bent back a few inches. Seems like I have to ride with my 'nads pinned beneath the steering wheel to feel comfortable--and I'm 6' even!

I am 6' 0" too. I have the short shifter (Weltmeister) in it, this seems to hvae made the knob closer to the floor, away from my reach.

Same problem here (6'1"). As I type, I have my short shift knob here, getting ready for an extension. My plan is to cut off the end of the shift arm (right at the spot where it necks down for the shift knob), machine a stainless or aluminum rod to fit, and pin or JB Weld it in place. I'll let you know how it works.

Be aware that when you change the effective length of the shift lever, this will increase the shift distance from gear-to-gear. This will negate the effect of any "short-shift" modification.

Perhaps a slight rebend with a torch could place the lever in a more convenient location.

Yeah, I understand that, but when I looked at my Weltmeister unit the pin location is different, yet the total rod length was the same. So if I simply add something to the top of the rod, like Turbo Dave, then all should be right in the world! :D

The throw might be extended, yet less than stock.

Keep me informed TD!

Well I don't have the problem of being to tall at 5'8", but a little to wide for my sport seats:mad:

But while I was at the Freightliner repair place picking up one of our fire engines the other day, I saw all kinds of shift knob extensions, from 1" to 6" or so. If you want I'll try and take a look and see if they might be usable for your shifter.

Funny thing here..back when I'd recently joined PCA, I saw ads for such extensions...pre bent. About 3" or so. But haven't seen such ads for years. Seems like there IS a market...

Anybody know the thread size ? Is it 10mm x 1.25 ?

No threads on end of the shift lever. The factory shift knob is attached using a friction fit via a crush sleeve, at least on late 901 up to 915 gearboxes.
