I know, I know, I should have used SWEPCO, but I needed it right then. So I put in AMSOIL as a stopgap until I got some SWEPCO. I had read that AMSOIL products were good, and perhaps this product is good in other applications, but it was horrible in my 915! Nothing but grinding and hard shifting for just over 2000 miles. I wonder if it is due to the fact that it is a synthetic.
I drained it tonight, and it came out coal black. I'll put in SWEPCO tomorrow, along with changing the clutch cable and helper spring, new bushings in the shifter, and a pedal cluster rebuild. Hopefully, it will cause some significant improvement, and treat my tranny better, at least until I can get around to repairing it correctly. |

Probably the Amsoil is too slippery. Redline has a transmission lube that includes an additive to produce the right amount of friction, ensuring good syncho engagement, the product has a suffix, NS, meaning non-slip. Swepco 201 has the same quality or
characteristics. [This message has been edited by movin (edited 07-07-2001).] |

Lee,
I think your 915 was giving you a message ... none of those thin, slick oils for those very special and unique Porsche servo-design sycnchro rings that worked well on everything from 60 hp 356s to 1100 hp 917s over the years! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
