I just revived this thread because I am having the exact identical problem to Tony's. I just assembled both input and pinion shafts and when they sit side by side, all of the gears mesh nicely except first gears. And my parts look almost identical to Tony's. So, was this issue ever resolved? Is it normal for the first gears to mesh at an offset or was there something wrong with Tony's transmission?
Thanks, |
Just finished rebuilding my 915 and was aware of Tony's gear mesh question prior to my disasembly.
My gears meshed the same as you are describing, and has normal wear to show that the whole width of the gear didn't mesh. I have pics of the trans if you need help. Good luck! J.R. |
Offset of 1st gear mesh is normal; our tranmsission had the same offset and wear pattern. Jim

Brilliant !! Thanks a thousand times !! As a total beginner, I was feeling pretty worried about the 1st gear meshing thing. Now I feel ready to begin my final approach to the runway !!
Thanks again, |
My 1st gears were offset also just to have EXTRA confirmation! :D
