Rough boggy idle on 82SC with rebuilt engine (35k)
Recently replaced spark plug, rotor and cap (and the alternator) but I still have a hard time starting and then a rough idle. When I give it some gas, it bogs down and nearly stalls with lots of backfiring. Everything else seems normal.
I have owned the car for 5 years and 5k miles. The PO said that the valve adjust ment had recently been completed so I have do that yet. My question is does this sound like an out of tune valve or something else. Attached is a sound file of the engine idling and getting some gas. Thank you for your help! Patrick |
Missing audio file
Can't seem to figure out how to attach and audio file... I've uploaded the file to a server and I am waiting for it to process. Sorry!

My guess is the Lambda Relay, under the passenger seat, in the front, on the tunnel side. When it's bad, you will have a sputtery, popping, 'can't put your foot on the gas' condition when the engine is cold. (In my experience with a bad lambda relay.)

CIS troubleshooting.........
Patrick,
A very simple test to check if your FV is working is run the FP (engine not running). With the FP running, the FV should be vibrating (running). Use a stetoscope to hear a running FV. If it does not, inspect the FV relay under the passenger seat. Another thing to consider is your vacuum leak/s. Keep us posted. Tony |
