brakes, exhaust, intake for carrera
i have a 84 carrera coupe 103000 miles, all stock except for suspension upgrades. i would like to upgrade brakes, exhaust, and intake (although) i hear not much can be done to make a difference on the intake side.
brakes: after reading many reports from here, i understand a 993 or 964 (what is difference) set up is the best. where can one go to get the parts (used?). and what can i expect to pay? i have 16 7,8 fuchs already, exhaust: i have a cat bypass but it is not on at this time. i live in phoenix and have to go to deq every 2 years. i see headers for sale in magazine for under $400. i do not need the heaters. could i install the headers and attatch a dual inlet single/dual outlet muffler? i would then need to reinstall the original exhaust before a deq test, would this be a lengthy process. i have never removed the exhaust before thanks in advance conrad 84 coupe 75 v35b |

Conrad,
The brakes on your carrera are very good. The stock brakes on mine serves me very well on both street and track. Use a good set of pads and good fluid. I use PFC 83 and 90 pads and ATE blue/gold fluid. Hawk blues are good pads as well. On the exhaust side, headers will make the most improvement but you will not pass the visual catalytic test. You can always switch them out every two years. I still have the stock heat exchangers except I have a simple pipe as muffler (little loud but I like it). On the intake side, I just have a K&N element (not the cone type). I initially installed the cone filter but I felt a loss in power, not an increase. You say that you have done some suspension mods. IMO, that is the most cost effective mods you can do to your car to improve performance. I assume you also lowered the car to at least euro specs. Anyway, that's it. Take the car to the track and have a blast. ![]() Paul 87 Carrera |
