narrow body tires

well i've done a search and really can't find an answer. i put 7x16's on the rear with my 225x50x16 that were on my 6x16, and they rub on bumps and turns. I don't really want to roll the lips and i really like the looks of the 7x16. i've read somewhere that you can put 7x16 on the rears with a certain tire, so if you can post your tire sizes for non rolled lips on your 7x16, i would be much appreciated. i will replace the tires next year as the car is in hibernation in our snow stricken area. i would like to go 7x16 on the front as well, so lemme have your recommendations. thanks pelicanheads.

I'm doing the same exact thing and will be installing 205-55-16 on all four corners mounted on 16 x 7 Fuchs either 911 style or the 951 style wheel (both have the same 23.3mm offset).

Here are some example photos I've grabbed from other Pelican posts with this setup:

6 x 16 Fuch wheels

I'm running 16x7 Fuchs on all 4 corners of my '71 with 205/55-16 tires. Very slight rub on the rear under full compression but I could likely eliminate this with a little more negative camber.. No rolling of the lips in my case. You can see photos of the fitment at the link above.

Chet, what is the front and rear ride height of your '71 measured at the fender lips?

Thanks

I'm not sure. Unfortunately I can't measure it for a while as the car is on stands and suspension work in progress for the winter.
I believe the rear is unchanged from as delivered originally and the front has been lowered a bit (by me I simply cranked the adjustment as low as it could go without re-indexing the torsion bars). Part of this winter's project involves torsion bars, adjustable spring plates, etc. so it will be going lower.

Obviously rubbing is directly related to ride height and camber.

i forgot to indicate that it is a stock 74 coupe. don't know if this makes a difference or not. the tires did not rub on 16x6, it only rubbed when i went to the 7s.
