Flasher Relay Problem or ???
 

I got my car back from the paint shop and the turn signals / 4 way flashers are flashing at about 4x the normal speed. I thought at first it was a bulb since that has been the case in other German cars owned. I changed and checked all the bulbs and they are working correctly.

The flasher is clicking and you can feel it so I know where it is. I can't seem to pull it out by pulling straight up. I did not want to pull too hard and break something "expensive". During the paint job, the rear lights were removed and unplugged, the fronts were wrapped and dangled. Since all the lights seem to work correctly, except for the rapid flashing, I was immediately drawn to the flasher.

Any thoughts? Correct procedure for removal of the flasher. 1979 SC Targa.

Sounds like a ground wire problem.

I think you might be onto something with the ground thing. Trying to research that in the Bentley now. The lights housing have a plug on either side. On the left side, there is a wire coming out of the plug with a connector that does not have a male plug anywhere near. German grounds are typically Brown and that plug is not brown. I unplugged the connectors and reseated them. The right side plug does not move around but the left one does. That makes me wonder.

I'm now pretty sure the plugs push out so both sides will turn a little. The grounds seem solid on the back. Have to check the front. Hazard switch is loose in it's socket but there do not appear to be any loose wires.

OK, after a couple hours of "messing" around, I find I have one side marker light out. Will that cause the quick flash syndrome? Have to wait until tomorrow to go to the Euro parts place here in Boise. I WILL win!

Yeah that can do it. Not sure but if I recall, the bulb is disconnected you might get them to flash correctly.

as a precaution, check the type of bulbs that are currently installed. If they are 1146, they are incorrect and should be replaced with the correct OEM bulb (I don't remember the part # offhand). This could be part of the problem?
